I would like to encourage all of my classmates that are sitting on the fence about attending the 50th reunion, to get off that fence, grab your cane, walker, or wheelchair, curl that grey hair, polish up that bald head,  don't worry about that excess weight, or double chin, and get on board!!! This may be your last chance to say "hey" to old friends from the class of 1965. Come listen to music from the 60's that will take you back to being 18, dance the twist (whatch out for that bad back!), the stroll might be easier, and visit till it's time to go. Might touch bases and keep in touch with friends from half a century ago.....Hope to see you there cool

Wouldn't miss this fascinating opportunity. Hope everyone feels what you have expressed so well.

Thanks John, I hope more classmates feel like we do, and we have a huge turnout! I know, for those who live farther away, it can be a challenge to travel back to Napa for just a weekend. Let's face it to stay in Napa during August is very expensive. We are bringing our 36' 5th wheel and staying at the rv park at the fairgrounds for a week. All the comforts of home! Anyone with an rv might consider this. Also staying a bit out of town (Vallejo, Fairfield, etc.) would be a lot less expensive. Sadly, cost is a big factor for some not attending. Here's hoping fuel prices go back down!!!

P.S. I see you have an Oregon beanie on. Go Ducks!!! My grandson, Macloud, is in his last year at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. We saw a lot of Duck's Fans while traveling to Ashland to visit. Although, my grandson played for the SOU Raiders (won the NAIA championship), we all rooted for the Ducks, who had am amazing season.

I'm very familiar with SOU. I owned a pizzeria for 25 years right across the street from the university(Gisepp's Pizza ). He may know of it. It's a small world.

Jack and I married in 1965, he went on the Calif. Hwy. Patrol, moved to Vacaville, then to Redding in 1986 when he retired. Purchased a Straw Hat Pizza, and a deli. Eventually closed the pizza restaurant, kept the small deli, moved into a larger building 11 years ago. We have done well with it over the last 20 plus years, but we are pooped. Soooo ready to retire completely. We are putting it on the market in the next few months, and, hopefully be "foot loose and fancy free" lol Only someone who has been in the restaurant business can know what a roller coaster ride it can be. At our age we prefer smooth sailing.

Terry, I hope you decide to attend the reunion. It's a chance to visit old friends, and because of our large class, you might make some new ones, lol Hope to see you there.

In memory of our classmate and teammate, Phil Wharton, a scholarship has been established in his name at Napa High School.  Not only was Phil a deep thinker, but also an outstanding athlete. He was very pleased when Jeff Green approached him a few months before his passing about being remembered at Napa High through a scholarship initially to be given to a senior on the men's basketball team.  With future funding a second scholarship may be extended to a senior member of the women's team.  The scholarship can be used for college, junior college, or vocational/tech school expenses for the recipient.  To donate to the Phil Wharton Memorial Scholarship please make checks out to Napa High School Scholarships and send to: NHS-Scholarship Office, 2475 Jefferson St.  Napa, Ca. 94558   Att: Jeanette Mullgrew   with a memo:Phil Wharton Scholarship            Those of you who read Jim Hines tribute to Phil will recognize the amazing life Phil led.  To honor him at Napa High is a way to keep his memory alive.  For those who have played team sports to say someone was a great teammate is a high honor and Phil was a great teammate.  Don Kleid

Thank you goes to Jeff Green and Don Kleid for making contracts with former members of the 65ers.

I knew Phil Wharton in High School only, but thanks to Jeff, Don and Jim Hindes (tribute) I am now able to know Phil in a deeper more meaningful way.

I think the Phil Wharton Memorial Scholarship at Napa High is a good way to keep Phil's memory alive.

The reunion was fantastic. The committee did a fabulous job. It was great to see Friends from the past. Thank you to Joe Cabral for a great party on Sunday. It was great fun and connected to those who did not attend the reunion.

Thanks to all.

A couple of messages to the class.  First, the Phil Wharton Scholarship was awarded to Brendon Peterson, a senior basketball player, who by all accounts, was a very deserving winner honoring Phil's memory with outstanding basketball ability and character.  With additional funding we would like to also have a senior lady basketball award in the future.  As a fund raiser for the scholarship(s) we are ordering "Napa High "Indians" Forever T-Shirts.  With the possibility of losing our historic nickname we would like it known that we object by wearing a shirt objecting to any change.                                                                                               Secondly, if not first,  Dick Simpson has been selected to the Napa High School Athletic Hall of Fame, our first and only Class of 65 member.  Sorry it took 51 years, but I was unfamiliar with the nominating process (I thought the commitee did the research and nominating).  Once I found out how the process worked I got the required information from Dick and his teammates and Bill Simpson and I made a successful presentation.  The awards dinner and presentation will be at the Embassy Suites on Oct. 22nd.  On Friday the 21st, the inductees will be introduced at halftime of that nights football game.  It would be great to have a bunch of us going in support of such a worthy classmate.  Don K.

Nice Post Don Kleid I remember Phil from Redwood as well as Napa High. He was a great man and accomplished amazing things. Perhaps I should have hit the books more instead of the beer parties. I may have accomplished more than retiring as a homicide detective. That in itself surprised a lot of people including myself. Also congratulations to Dick Simpson He should feel proud to be on the wall with Dick Lonergan whom I had the pleasure of working with for many years. I hope to see you one of these days soon Don!

Found this on classmate Connie Mayfield

Connie Jo Mayfield Totty, 65, passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 19, 1947, in Oswego, Kan., to Lulu and Ross Mayfield.

She married her high school sweetheart, Donald Totty, on June 29, 1968. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

Connie enjoyed watching her grandkids play baseball and supported her granddaughter’s girl scout troop.

Connie was full of life. She loved to shop, line dance, gamble, travel with her sister, and, most of all, spend time with her family. She was a loving person who had a gift for making everyone feel special.

Connie is survived by her husband of 44 years, Donald Totty; her children, Danny and his wife Angel of Santa Rosa, Calif., Billy of Napa, and Jill and her husband Rafael of Napa; four grandchildren, Sabrina, Bryce, Justin and Ashlyn; sisters Sharon Neidlinger of Napa, Janet and her husband Ken of Clearlake, Calif., and brother Ricky and his wife Chris of American Canyon; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents.

Walter Mikolajcik

Sad to hear about Jim Killian. Jim played drums and joined up with Dave Stearns , Walt Mikolajcik and Dwight Graves to form a dance band. We actually played several gigs , our first was at the Napa Fairgrounds . Here we are at the Winter Show where Dick Simpson joined us playing trombone and last minute stand in harmonica player.  As it was a Roman Toga scene Jim picked the appropriate band name for the occasion and had it on back side of his bass drum head "The Glad-he-ate-hers "

Just read many messages from friends of 1965. So nice to get updated with folks. Thank you Jim Bell for the Birthday wish. More importantly to hear from you. I still remember watching the first superbowl at your house with the guys. Great day in NFL history. Ive been out of touch for quite a while so here is a brief update.

Im married to my sweet wife Kathy Cook from Chicago. We have four children and eleven grandchildren. We are retired educators from Fairfield where I served as principal for twenty-eight years. My forty-five years as an educator was a dream career teaching, counseling, serving as principal, teaching in a university and ending my career as a Program Manager for graduate students in the University.

We moved to Chico upon our retirement and work as volunteers serving the less advantage at the local food locker and Torres shelter. Life has been very good to me and i look forward to staying more connected to the alumni in the future.
