Lee:

You will always be remembered by your "off the wall - crazy" antics!  Just the sound of your name brings a smile to my face.  You are missed and we pray that you're staying out of trouble as an angel!!

Cheers Doc!

LeRoy (that's how I always knew you), you lit up a room just by walking into it. You were so full of mischief and life, exuding energy from every pore of your being. Even when you got Lou Gehrig's Disease, you were indomitable.

Here's a little background on Lee, taken from his obituary and funeral card: He entered military service in June 1965, retiring in 1987. During his military career, he was an Army Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division in the Dominican Republic & the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Viet Nam 1966-68; he earned a BA degree in business & marketing from the Univ. of Maryland. In 1988, after retiring from the military, he became a correctional officer at Napa Co. Dept of Corrections (fitting occupation for such a hell raiser, don't you think?), retiring as a supervising CO in Dec1995 due to Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Lee was a huge supporter of the ALS and founded the ALS support group at the Queen of the Valley Hospital in 1996, as well as many Internet support groups such as "Living with ALS" and "PALS", where caregivers and patients can post questions and get assistance. He was nominated to the ALS Bay Area Chapter Board of Directors in 1999 and a volunteer at the Napa Co. Detention Ministry. He survived ALS for 17 years with grace, courage, a bit of stubborness and joy, finally passing from this earth on March 14, 2008..

From Lee's last message on the "Living with ALS" website in Feb. 2008:  "Every day is what we make it. We choose to be happy or sad, angry or pleasant, loving or hateful. We still control our feelings and our lives. Life is not a dress rehearsal; we get one shot at each moment, lets make the best of them."

Hi Lee,

I am so sorry that you went through so much. I am praying for you, your family and your friends. You were a big part of our wonderful class at Napa high...class of 1965.

I spoke to your sister, Marleen, this morning, on Facebook, and told her that I would express my sympathy and love. You are missed Lee.

Your classmate,

Mary (Pryts) Thomas

Doc:

Here's to all our good times as kids in the old neighborhood, at St. John's, St.Vincent's & Napa High. All our ball games & memories. You were a great team mate and an excellent friend. Thanks for your outstanding military career and service to our country Doc. You were an even greater hero in the brave & dignified manner in which you endured ALS. You're missed and will never be forgotten Doc. You're thought of well & often bud. You were a great guy. Save us a place up there old friend.

Leroy, I couldn't say it any better than Craig did. Only thing I ask, when I get up stairs, please don't seat me next to Sister Marcellis. My knuckles are still sore. Rest in peace pay. See you much later, Ken
