Terry Conley

My name is Terry Conley and I was in the car the night Jerry died. We were out drinking because he was getting married to Sue Perry the next day. We started out going to two bars in Napa and then got some beer and went to Ron's place to drink some more and eventually ended up at the Coronado Inn in Vallejo. We went there in Jerry's car and he asked me to keep his keys while we were there. Jerry got very drunk and I did't want him to drive, but, he insisted I give him his keys to drive home. On the way home Jerry was driving to fast and there was a curve in the road with telephone polls on each side of the road and we came to the curve and Jerry slammed on the brakes and I think he thought we were going to hit a pole and he jumped from the car when the car was skidding over 400 feet and we ending up in a ditch. There were five of us in the car and when we stopped we got out of the car we didn't see Jerry anywhere. I happen to look under the car and there was Jerry under the car with the car on top of him. We had to jack up the car to get him out and someone called for an ambulance and I went with him to The Queen. Jerry died ten minutes after we got there. To this day if I would have insisted to Jerry that I drive, he would still be married to Sue and enjoying the rest of his life. Jerry was my BFF and we were both Vietnam Veterans and I still feel it was my fault after all these years.

I think of Jerry Lang a lot. He was a good friend and super nice guy. I remember he is the one that got me into playing sports outside of school. I can still remember him and his friends coming to see me when he got back from Viet Nam. I had just gotten married and living in Napa at the time. I moved to San Fransisco just after that visit and never saw him again. I will always miss him.
