John Bobby Moreno

Sergeant

G CO, 2nd BN, 27th Marines, 1st MARDIV

United States Marine Corps

23 January 1947 - 07 July 1968

Vallejo, California

Panel 53 W Line 037

Sergeant Moreno was my Platoon Sergeant. He was on his second tour of duty when he was killed by a booby trap. I walked point that day for a company of Marines during Operation Allen Brook on Go Noi Island. We encountered many NVA on this operation in July 1968. Sergeant Moreno was a great Platoon Sergeant - he led from the front, he was fearless and he knew his stuff. I will never forget him, he gave his all for his Platoon and Country! He had just returned from visiting his wife on R&R in Hawaii when he was killed. His death was a great loss for our Platoon and all who knew him. The Marine Corps lost a great leader that awful day. I will never forget him, his courage and his honor.

John was quite a guy...Used to love to dance with him at the sock hops at Ridgeview. So sorry to hear he lost his life serving our country, but do know he served as a brave young man. May you rest in peace John.  You are fondly remembered  in my heart.  Jawana
