I remember my first spanking from Mrs Edington for not saying "Yes Ma'am". That stayed with me for a while. Leaving the library through the cabinet and running through the balcony. That actually came in handy just a few years ago when they were looking at running some cables and I told the school board "Oh yeah, there's a way to get to the old library from the balcony. Let me show you." Sorry, now it's boarded up.
Senior trip bottle rocket wars on the beach and getting chased by the cops. Funny how Robert Law was the first to run. Chris Ransom and I getting out of class to pound 2X4s in the ground to mark off the gym footer locations. It probably would have been easier to go to class.
Getting kicked out of Miriam Elder's History and English class in 9th grade. That was rough! Did all my work Monday and Tuesday and helped the other classes have recess. And we can't forget Miss Harmon. I actually felt bad to take all those honor society skip days in Pre-Calculus especially since I wasn't in Honor Society that year. Oh, I almost forgot the singing ABCs for the Biology tests. Life was good.
Being a stepdad of a 5th grader, I appreciate the work that the teachers made us do. It was their job to make us do it and our job to try to get out of it. That's the yin-yang. Now, kids aren't expected to do any work in the public schools and they can't be graded fairly otherwise someone will feel left out. It's a shame. I've decided if my wife ever lets me run for PTA president, I'm bringing back the A+. That's right, they got rid of the A+ so as not to discriminate from the kids that make a 94 and those that make a 97. Why don't they just give everyone an A+ that shows up for class and can stay awake and be done with it.
OK, I'm off my soapbox. All I'm saying is - I loved it at Denbigh and hope it's around for many years to come.
As you can see, I know all the grammer rules from having to write the back of the language textbook for punishment, but I still can't write worth two cents.
I'm out. See you next time.
