Jay Gottshall


Jay R. Gottshall of Hatboro passed away suddenly at home July 28, 2006, at age 54.

He was the devoted husband of Cheri A. (Matthy) Gottshall with whom he had celebrated five years of marriage. Jay was born in Norristown a son of the late John and Mildred Gottshall-Burns.

Jay retired in 1992 after 22 years from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and proudly served with the VR-52 Taskmasters Squadron at Willow Grove Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base.

He was the past Commander of the Douglas A. Post-Harry C. Wilson II Memorial V.F.W. Post 6493 of Warminster where he presently served as the Post Adjutant. He was the past Commander of District 8 V.F.W. and was currently employed at Lockheed Martin Naval Engineering and Technical Services in Mount Laurel, N.J., as a technical writer.

In addition to his wife, Jay is survived by six children; Stephanie, Elizabeth and Brian Matthy, Ben and Krista Gottshall and Julie O'Neill, and was preceded in death by a brother Bob Gottshall.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. in the Chapel at Willow Grove Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base on Easton Road in Horsham, where his family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until time of the service.

His interment will take place Friday, Aug. 11, at 3 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C.

Jay & I were longtime friends, hanging out on Hamilton Street @ The CHERILLE's. Fond memories of the night Jay & I turned ourselves in to the Norristown Police, after a backyard chase, for setting fireworks off on Hamilton Street.GOOD GUY, Fun Times.

JAY WAS A POSITIVELY COOL GUY. Like ... cool in the 1969 sense of the word. So what happened to him? Some day the Norristown Times Herald is going to publish a competent obituary.
