Russ was a good friend. His dad, Howard, and my dad were good friends and so our families did a lot of things together. When Howard had a heart attack, Lucille called my dad and I think he was there before the ambulance arrived. Howard's death affected my dad and all of our family quite a bit. And then to have Russ pass on at such a young age really hit me hard.

Russ and I played Little League, went swimming together and hung out a lot when we were young. We were in the same scout troop and went on some campouts together.

I will never forget a birthday party I had when I was about an 8th grader. My birthday was during the Christmas break so I rarely had a birthday party (who wants to go to a party 4 days after Christmas). That year my parents said I could have a party. I only invited a few friends and Russ was one of them. When I opened my gift from Russ, it turned out to be a pair of turquoise princess gloves. I couldn't even get my hands into them, they were so small. I thought it was a gag gift and I kept waiting for him to pull out the real gift but he never did, that was the real gift. Years later I found out that his little sister, Shelly, had gone to a birthday party on the same day and that they had picked up the wrong gifts so I got Shelly's friend's princess gloves by mistake.

In high school we played football together but we weren't as close as we were when we were younger. After graduation, I think I only saw Russ a few times before we went our separate ways.

Russ was always fun-loving, happy, and full of life. I couldn't believe he was gone at such a young age. It really made me think about my own mortality and how you never know how much longer you have on this earth. Hug your kids and grandkids a little harder, let your family and friends know how much you care for them. Say thank you more often and appreciate the beauties of the earth around you. Life is too short to focus on the negative.

Thank you, Russ, for being a good friend.

Russ was a good friend and I enjoyed playing ball with him in school. Russ had a fun loving atitude about life and that carried over into everything that he did. I taught with Russ at Ontario Middle School and he was very well respected and liked by students and faculty.

I got to know Russ when he was going with my sister. I loved his fun-loving look on life. I loved his sense of humor and the way he would tease me and make me feel important. I saw him as being the big brother I'd never had and always wanted.

I wanted to post a message saying what a good teacher he was, he taught us P. E . from yr 7 to yr 10, I hated him at the start because he made us run laps of the ovals, continously, but loved him in the end. I was a student at Prahran High School in Melbourne, I know he passed away a while ago but I only just found out recently and was saddened by the news.
