I remember our phone conversation when you were ill, Chip. I want to thank you and your family for welcoming me to Oak Park when my family moved there in 1959. You invited me to lunch many times, and I appreciated that. I remember on the basketball court how you could shoot what we call 3-pointers today. Thank you for your friendship.

Chip had a wondeful sense of the absurd, making me laugh on more than one occasion, very inappropiately in Spanish class!  I remember meeting his wife Paula when they went to visit me and meet my baby daughter, when I had travelled from Brazil,  to visit my mother.  I was stunned at our 40th to learn of Chip's battle with cancer, and subsequent death.  I always regretted that I had no way of communicating my deepest sympathy to Paula and their children, as well as to Chip's parents, whom I also remember fondly.  Que en paz descanse, amigo mío.

Chip was a great guy.  He was sincere, kind and funny.  No wonder he was elected our senior class president and was chosen the most popular boy in our class.  I am fortunate to say that Chip was my best friend in high school.  We played sports and spent most of our free time during the school year and the summers together. We shared a strong bond that continued to grow after our graduation. When we were dating, my wife and I would often double date with Chip and Paula; we attended each others wedding; and when we had our children we would go to each others house for family picnics.

I was looking forward to the time when both Chip and I would be retired so that we could spend more time together and travel.  I am deeply saddened that we will not be able to do that.  He has been gone for 14 years now but I still miss Chip and I know he will be missed by many of his other good friends at the upcoming class reunion.
