In Memory

Neil Dye

Neil Dye

Thomas Neil Dye passed away on April 13th 2009 in the town that he loved, Uintah.  As the train whistle blew, he was able to obey the call "All Aboard".  He married Leora Kay Porter on August 18th 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple.  They lived in the home that Neil grew up in, on the family farm in Uintah.  He served faithfully in many callings in the Uintah 2nd Ward and loved doing Temple work.  He served  a Western States Mission in 1961-1963.  He was blessed with 3 sons and 2 daughters and has 18 grandchildren.  With trains running through Uintah, daily Neil and his grandsons had a great love for trains. So much so, that he started volunteering at the Ogden Union Station in 2000, after he retired from Hill Air.  Where he made many friends with fellow railroaders.  He loved to plant a big garden.  His family and friends will surely miss him.

I had the pleasure of working with Neil down at the Union Station as a fellow volunteer. He always kept me informed of classmates that had passed on or asked me if I knew of any. Ironic that he's now one of them. I'll really miss his friendly smile and talking about old times.

I read in the paper today about the passing of Neil. I am so sorry. I remember having some classes with him at Weber High he was really a nice guy. I loved reading the story about the trains. What a nice memory for his family.

My wife is a volunteer with her 92 year old mother at the Union Station. Her 91 year old mother is the wife of Mr. Andersen, who used to be one of the type teachers at WHS. Jay Andersen (my father-in-law), passed away of Lou Gehrigs Disease in 1997. This is the 1st I've heard of Neil's passing. What a shock! It hasen't been a year since I spoke with him at a Union Station dinner at Maddox. Both he and Lee Whitten were very involved in making such thinks run perfectly at the Union Station. I send my deepest sympathies and condolences to his family in their loss of Neil. (April 25, 2009) Dennis Chamberlain
