Forty years, wow! It’s hard to believe.
After high school, I entered the U.S. Navy and spent 21 years 7 months serving this great country. I had duty stations in Long Beach, CA, Davisville, RI, London, England, Keflavik, Iceland, Charleston, SC., Jacksonville, FL, and Omaha, NE I worked in numerous fields - cooking, payroll/accounting, computer technician/programmer and recruiting.
After retiring from the Navy in January 1991, I worked for the Principal Financial Group in Mason City for 11 years in pension administration, computer services and programming. In 2004 I purchased the Nora Inn Restaurant in Nora Springs and operated it successfully from 2004 through 2007. I currently work for the U.S. Postal Service part-time, and spend most of my time working for my neighbor in his woodworking shop and farming business.
I have two great kids from my first marriage, Ellisa and Kevin. Ellisa is an LP nurse. She lives and works in Osage. Kevin is married to Christina and works for Met Life in Des Moines. They have a 3-year-old daughter, Isabelle, that I love to spoil.
In 1995, Tari and I purchased an acreage NW of Nora Springs, IA. During the early years on the acreage, we divided our time between attending activities for her two girls, Amanda and Jessica, and working on fixing up the acreage. Over the years, we’ve replaced all the original outbuildings and now we’re building a new house to replace the old farmhouse.
There never seems to be enough time to get everything done, but we love living in the country. We’re both excited about the new house and looking forward to moving in. Maybe next summer we can find more time to spend with our family and play some golf.
