Ginger was born September 25, 1943 in Muskogee, Oklahoma but moved with her family to Pampa, Texas at an early age. After graduating from Pampa High School in 1962, she attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. In 1967 she married Virgil Ackfeld, a pilot and an officer in the United States Air Force. She lived in many exciting places while her husband was in the service. She returned to Pampa in 1973 where she lived until 1998 when she moved to Houston to be near her children.
For many years she co-owned with her mother the Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio in Pampa. She was an active life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was deeply religious and spiritual and passed those values onto her family. She would call her son in law, who is a police officer, every morning to say a prayer for his safety on the job. She loved shopping and all things girly. She was an avid reader and sometimes had as many as 10 books going at one time. She loved butterflies, hot air balloons, and above all things airplanes. She had a vibrant and easy going personality. She was easy to talk to and always made people feel at comfortable . She was a wonderful mother and doting grandmother to her only Grandson.
She is survived by her daughter Megan Cockrill and husband Ken of Houston; a son Andrew Ackfeld of Houston; a stepdaughter Jackie Fraizer and husband Scott of Flower Mound; and a grandson Dylan Cockrill; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Virginia and Lawrence William (L.W.) “Cap” Jolly and a brother Neil Jolly.
A private ceremony will be held in Hawaii at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the 100 Club of Houston. The organization financially supports the families of law enforcement officers and fire fighters who have died in the line of duty.

Thankful Ginger had such an interesting life and to see that her faith was a great part of what she lived each day. Ginger was easy to know...always pleasant and had a smile for everyone. Ginger will be not be forgotten by her classmates at PHS. Grateful she was in our lives and will live in memory.

So very sorry to hear about Ginger! Her Mom and Dad were friends of our family and my Uncle Jack Morgan and Cap were Corporate pilots with Cabot Corp for many years! Such great memories with Ginger and her family! I got to fly with both Cap and Virgil a few times! They were great people and pilots! God Bless !

I was so sorry to read of Ginger's passing. I had not seen her in years, but I am sorry I did not to get to catch up with her at a reunion. I never knew why she didn't come to the one that was in Pampa, since she was living in Pampa at the time. She will be missed.

Ginger and I had many fun times together. We had such a good time when her dad would let us go up with him in the plane. We also injoyed making Scott's (her neighbor) life as unpleasant as possible. She loved life and enjoyed every minute of it. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Ginger and I grew up on the same block through elementary school. We had so much fun running up and down the blolck with Tony Edmondson and Dick Batson. She was always a lot of fun. We played many a game of jacks on my front pourch. It is so hard to lose our old friends and classmates but we will always have wonderful members. Sandra, where did you live? The Hahns lived north of Ginger's house. We lived in the 800 block of Frost Street and were/still are good friends of Sara Hahn...at her house often. I didn't realize "we" were also neighbors!
