Janice Giddens (Staples)

Janice Kay Giddens Staples, 76, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Janice Kay Giddens StaplesJune 22, 2020 in Dallas. She was born in Pampa, Texas on September 26, 1943 to Jimmie Wallace Giddens and Ruth Roland Graves. She lived in Pampa and Wichita Falls, Texas before moving with her family to Laguna Beach, California. She spent her senior year there and graduated from Laguna Beach High School in 1962.

Janice attended Baylor University where she met and married the love of her life, Albert James Staples, on July 16, 1964. They enjoyed life together with their children, relocating to various states and ultimately residing in Richardson, Texas. A.J. tragically passed away on January 29, 1981. Janice was an incredibly strong woman, and did an amazing job raising her children after her husband’s passing.

Janice was a stay-at-home mother, involved in her children’s activities. She was very active with the Junior League of Richardson, volunteering her time and holding several board positions. She has always been a diligent worker, having held several jobs during her lifetime. She was employed with Expo Group, Snelling & Snelling, and ultimately Southwest Airlines, to name a few. She loved her job at Southwest and retired from there in 2016.

Janice enjoyed cooking, gardening, exercising, hospitality and had quite a flair for fashion! She had a wonderful heart, full of love for family and friends, and especially her grandchildren. She traveled to her grandchildren’s sporting events, always cheering with a smile on her face and cherishing her time with them. She was strong, loving, humble and selfless, always giving of herself and her time to others. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at Park Cities Baptist Church and treasured her relationship with the Lord. It was a joy for her to spend one-on-one time with family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love and loyalty. She will be missed dearly.

Janice is survived by her daughter, Monica Staples Meyer of Coppell, her son, Albert James ‘Jay’ Staples, Jr. and daughter-in-law Bethany ‘Beth’ Bailey Staples of Plano, and her grandchildren Lindsey Abbott Meyer, Reagan Elizabeth Meyer, James Pearson ‘JP’ Staples, and Bryce Wilson Staples. She is also survived by her brother Jimmie Wallace Giddens, Jr. (Patricia), brother Timothy Craig Giddens (Patricia), sister Betty Lou Agar (Charles), brother Thomas Kevin Giddens (Debbie) as well as many nieces and nephews. Janice is preceded in death by her father Jimmie Wallace Giddens, her mother Ruth Graves Giddens Compton, her step-father Jack Ogden Compton, and her husband Albert James Staples.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2020, in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue in Dallas. For those attending the service, social distancing and face coverings are required. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dallas Arboretum in her honor.
