Jack Griffiths

Jack Griffiths

January 31, 2013,  Jack Griffiths was a special crews foreman for Southern California Edison in the Long Beach, Lake Arrowhead, Palm Springs and Catalina Island areas.  He retired with a medical disability due to a lower back injury.  He eventually ended up with metal supports up both sides of his spine under his skin.  Most recently he underwent surgery for a pancreas disorder and never really recovered.  The surgery was in December and he went home on January 4, 2013.  His close companion Peggy was with him up and to his death on Jan. 31, 2013.  She said he died in his sleep.

I had Jack in my second grade class, Mrs. Barrett,  at Collins Elem. (small photo from the class picture). The top photo is of Jack and Mike Lampman in the Paramount High School parking lot during our senior year.  There is a photo of our Alondra Jr. High football team. Jack signed my yearbook, it says "Jack" above his photo. Jack was very proud of being on the football team. The bottom photo is of Jack and Paul Cook (Randy Roberts is partly visable). I think that we were going on our Senior Outing to Newport Dunes, or we were getting ready to skip school and go to the beach!

I had some great times with Jack, Gary, Ron, Richard, Randy, Doug, Dave, and Tom, just "hanging out".  Jack was always worried about getting his homework done. Gary had it done before we got home from school, and me, "What homework!"  Jack had a "cool" Ford tuck that he had painted a bright yellow.  He really liked the truck until he bought a Chevy Nomad.  He had it painted a metallic green (almost like my 56 Chevy).  It was a beautiful car and we'd cruise around town.  We had some fun times at the beach parties and just hanging out.

Jack admired his brother Bob. I remember the day that we drove him over to the mortuary when  Bob was killed in Vietnam.  I knew how he felt as I had an older brother who I admired to high heavens too.  Jack lived about three blocks down the street from me so it was an easy walk over to his house and then across the street to the Farinas in order to "hang out".  We did a lot of "Hanging out" back then.

God Bless You Jack.
