I'd rather not see this site become a potlical forum.  But if people want to voice their opinions and facts, others do not have to read them.

I hope it wouldn't turn people away from this web site.  But, it might keep fellow classmates keep in contact with us.

I'd rather see messages about how and what you are doing.

Most respectfully,

Mark O.

Some of us got together at "Gus' BB" on Alondra Blvd. in Paramount on Monday Sept. 28th.  L - R; Tom, Ernie, Mark, Ofelia, Robert, ?, Pat, Pattsy, ?, Manuel, ?, Jeri.

There were Paramount H.S. alumni from the early 60's who I did not know.

There were 45 classic cars, including Tom's "cool" black 57, Belair, Chevy.  We plan to me up again in the not to distant future.  We hope that some of you can join us.  It's been along time, life goes by, and it's enjoyable to share our memories.

Be Good, and Do Good.

Robert Troncos passed away last year.  I just found out on Sept. 23rd, 2024.

I met him at Alondra Jr. High School, Paramount back in 1962. He lived in Lakewood, near Downey and South Streets.   We "hung out" together a lot in  8th grade, before classes. We'd hang out with Ron Dumphy and then go over and hang out with Jim Stevens, Tony Riley, and Donna Byuere. He was an all around athlete and was phyically more mature than most of the guys (me for sure!). We were on four sports teams together, all at Alondra JHS.   He was quiet and smart. Very polite and was rather a "school boy".  During the Summer before high school, I'd go over to his house. His mother was very nice, his father was strict and wanted to know who his friends were and where we were going and what we were doing (that's good parenting}. His family moved from Compton to Lakewood. He told me that he live near Ulis Williams (an Olympic Champion runner) and that he would jogged with him, although Robert was a little kid at the time.  When we got to high school we didn't hang out together as much.  I lost contact with him after high school.  Then in the 1990's I ran into him at Lake Arrowhead. He and his family lived in Creastline and he was a Postman.  Rosa and I had bought a get-away cabin in Twin Peaks not far from his home.  We got together for BBQ's and I visited him at the Post Office during his lunch time.  The last time we spoke was at one of our class reunions.

Writing this brings back a lot of good memories of our youth.

Some more photos of Robert Troncoso.  I search for non yearbook photos but didn't have or find any.

I included what he wrote in my 9th and 12th grade yearbooks.  I remember him writing in my yearbooks as if it was just a few weeks ago.

God Bless Robert's Soul.

April 5th is celebrated as "Go For Broke Day," commemorating the motto of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a highly decorated unit composed of Japanese American soldiers, and their spirit of risking everything to win.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • 442nd Regimental Combat Team:
This unit, composed of Japanese Americans from Hawaii and the mainland, was known for its valor and gallantry during World War II, earning the title of the most decorated unit in U.S. military history for its size and length of service.
  • Private First Class Sadao Munemori:
The day is also linked to the heroic actions of Private First Class Sadao Munemori, a Japanese American soldier who died in service on April 5, 1945, near Seravezza, Italy.
  • Munemori's Sacrifice:
Munemori sacrificed his life by covering a live grenade with his body to save his comrades, earning him a posthumous Medal of Honor.
  • Historical Context:
Many Japanese American soldiers, including those in the 442nd, faced the challenge of serving their country while their families were interned in camps during World War II.
  • "Go For Broke" Spirit:
The motto "Go For Broke" embodies the spirit of the 442nd, representing their willingness to risk everything to achieve victory.
  • National Recognition:
April 5th is now recognized as "National Go For Broke Day," honoring the legacy and bravery of the 442nd and the Japanese American soldiers who served in World War II.
  • "Go For Broke" Meaning:
The phrase "Go For Broke" is a Hawaiian Pidgin gambling term meaning to "wager everything" or "risk it all".
