Seems like it was only a few years ago that I sat next to Gloria in Mrs. Phillip's English class at Alondra Jr. High. She had a wonderful smile (look at the photos), always friendly and outgoing. God Bless her soul and all those people she loved and those who love her.

Everything You Should Know About the Longest Day of the Year

June 20, 2024

Summer Days are here! Summer begins with the solstice on Thursday, June 20, 2024, marking the astronomical first day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. What exactly IS the summer solstice? Is it really the longest day of the year? Welcome the solstice with some interesting facts and folklore.
The June Solstice

In the Northern Hemisphere, the June solstice (aka summer solstice) occurs when the Sun travels along its northernmost path in the sky. This marks the astronomical start of summer in the northern half of the globe. (In the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the opposite: the June solstice marks the astronomical start of winter when the Sun is at its lowest point in the sky.)
When is the Summer Solstice?

The June solstice occurs on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 4:51 P.M. EDT.

Just a little humor for you seniors

Senior Wisdom Explained

I used to be able to do cartwheels. Now I tip over putting on my underwear.

I hate it when I see an old person and then realize we went to high school together.

I told my wife she should embrace her mistakes... so she hugged me.

My wife says I only have 2 faults. I don't listen and something else....

At my funeral, take the bouquet off my coffin and throw it into the crowd to see who is next.

I thought growing old would take longer.

I came, I saw, I forgot what I was doing. Retraced my steps, got lost on the way back, now I have no idea what's going on.

The officer said, "You drinking?" I said, "You buying?" We just laughed and laughed.... I need bail money.

Day 12 without chocolate. Lost hearing in my left eye.

Scientists say the universe is made up of protons, neutrons and electrons. They forgot to mention morons.

The adult version of "head, shoulders, knees and toes" is "wallet, glasses, keys and phone."

A dog accepts you as the boss... a cat wants to see your resume.

Oops.... did I roll my eyes out loud?

Life is too short to waste time matching socks.

Wi-fi went down for five minutes, so I had to talk to my family. They seem like nice people.

If you see me talking to myself, just move along. I'm self-employed; we're having a staff meeting.

I won't be impressed with technology until I can download food.

Some people call me crazy. I prefer happy with a twist.

My doctor asked if anyone in my family suffers from mental illness. I said, "No, we all seem to enjoy it."

I really don't mind getting old, but my body is having a major fit.

Camping: where you spend a small fortune to live like a homeless person.

Project Manager. Because Miracle Worker isn't an official job title.

I told my wife I wanted to be cremated. She made me an appointment for Tuesday.

Measure once, cuss twice

My dream job would be driving the karma bus.

THINK! (It's not illegal.... YET)

I've reached the age where my train of thought often leaves the station without me

If you're happy and you know it, it's your meds

Rosa and I visited Gary and Lorie Buice on Aug. 27th, 2024, in Reno.  We have a home there and go up about 5-6 times a year and get together with them.  Gary and I went all the way from Kinder through 12th grade together.  Then we were room mates when I went to Compton J.C. and he was attending UCLA.  There is only one person whom I've known long, my cousin.    Lorie is only a year. Lorie is only one year younger than us but I stil see her as a 17 year old!

Conundrum

The definition of the word Conundrum is: something that is puzzling or confusing.

Here are six Conundrums of socialism in the United States of America:

1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.

2. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.

3. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.

4. Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.

5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.

6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

A gun is like a parachute  If you need one, and don't have one, you'll probably never need one again.

These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our current government and cultural environment:

1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.

Funny how that works.  And here's another one worth considering…

2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money.  But we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money!    What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't.

Think about it....and Last but not least :

3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII,  but we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens.

Am I the only one missing something?

"If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools." – Plato
