Noel Squitieri

Noel Squitieri

Many are aware of Noel's long battle against cancer and complications from its treatment.  His wife, Barbara, just posted this:

Noel passed away peacefully at 12:20 Christmas morning. Henry, Cory and I want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughts, prayers and wishes during this long journey, especially recently.

As we have details on arrangements, I will share. Henry and I waited to tell Cory until she'd been able to experience another year of Santa and Christmas joy.

Merry Christmas to all of you. Hug your loved ones tightly. You never know what tomorrow might bring.

Here is Noel's obituary, with details for his visitation and funeral service:

I really didn't know Noel very well in high school.  But like many others I luckily got to know him at the reunions.  And his joy for his family and friends and this group was what made him special.  Noel was certainly one of a kind.  While many of us have grandchildren and are way past having our children with us, his devotion to his daughter was something that I always found so impressive.  As many have mentioned his postings were the most frequent on this site...always with a joyful "they say it's your birthday" greeting.  I will never not think of Noel when ever I hear that song.  May his memory be a blessing.

Henry Squitieri, Noel's father was my first violin teacher.  He put me on the path that has lasted a lifetime. An amazing and debonair Italian. Great musician in the Pittsburgh Symphony. I spent a lot with Noel and Ricky as a kid, and with Elsie their mom back then. My memory of Noel is completely rooted in that period as I have not seen him since maybe 1965.  But I know his parents would be proud of the man he became. His battle with this disease was heroic and relentless.  I am filled with that sadness but appreciative of the memories of Noel and his family, who were so impactful in my life.  All my love to the family.

I'm very sad to have to say goodbye to Noel.  He was such an enthusiastic member of our high school class, always showing up with Barb and Cory for our reunions, planning committee meetings, and any other informal gatherings of classmates.  It was very important to him to send birthday greetings through our website to everyone in the class and then to keep everyone updated regarding his long battle with cancer.  Throughout that battle he stayed optimistic and determined, always hoping to have a big party with classmates at his house when he would be well again.  Barb, you and Cory and Henry will always be dear to the Class of '70, and we hope that you will stay actively connected with us.  Noel would love that.  We'll all really miss him.

Sending my sincere condolences to the entire family on the recent passing of your precious, Noel.  Quite a warm feeling as a good man named, Noel, entered into a special place prepared for him in heaven on Christmas Day!  Although he will be greatly missed,  please find comfort in knowing how he richly touched and blessed MANY during his 71 years on earth, and is now beginning his eternal life free from pain and sickness.

I recently ran across a class picture where there was a picture of Noel. We were all so young!  Noel was such a nice person. I fondly remember talking to him at our 20th reunion and I always enjoyed his comments on here. Holding Noel and his family in the Light.

I believe it is very difficult for most of us to open up our personal life the way that Noel did. I admired him for that.
