I remember telling my kids on their first day of kindergarden (and subsequent grades), "you don't have to be friends with everyone, just friendly to everyone."

Looking forward to a nostalgic event (assuming I go)...

Don't forget the end of the cold war, the "eastern bloc" revolutions and the dissolution of the soviet union: 1989-1991; e.g. the Berlin Wall was taken down; also (side note), the beginning of the European Union shortly after our graduation.
