Comments for Mrs. McGraw

I was so privileged to have met Mrs. McGraw my sophomore year at Winston Churchill. I was a member of the choir and participated in spring musicals and a few talent shows. God bless Mrs. McGraw. She now rests very comfortably in our Lord Jesus's arms. Jeff Auger

I met Mrs. McGraw when I auditioned for Camelot as a Sophomore in 1968. I didn't make the musical but Mrs. M asked me to join the choir. Three wonderful years followed that provided an opportunity for me to grow my appreciation of music and learn so much about the discipline. We had so much fun! The incident with the "Bass's Union" reminds me how tolerant she was underneath her tough exterior. The Bass section went on strike because the choir had no input into what we sang. Mrs. M finally relented and let us choose some music. It was a disaster. We tried to sing "Get Together" by the Youngbloods - a pop song not at all suited to a choir - and after some painful rehearsals we finally gave up and went back to singing our familiar music. I still know the Soprano parts to the "Hallelujah Chorus". Amazing. And PS, I didn't get into Camelot but I was fortunate to be a chorus member of our next 2 musicals, "South Pacific" and "How to Succeed in Business..." Mrs. McGraw will always be remembered by me as one of my favorite teachers.

I remember Mrs. McGraw as elegant and somewhat strict, but so very encouraging. She convinced Marc Zell and I to audition for the Music Honors Society using our voices as instruments. I believe we sang a duet from Porgy and Bess and were proudly inducted. And after that honor came South Pacific which brings back many wonderful memories. Her dedication was a gift.
