In Memory

John Flynn*

John was taken from us way too soon!  He died in 1986 from leukemia. He is survived by Debbie Murphy (Curtis).

John was my "little" brother (I graduated from WCHS in 1969), and it was my honor to donate bone marrow to him way back when.  It was a very trying time, those two years between his diagnosis and the transplant, but you should all know that he never lost his sense of humor, and always thought first of others, especially the little children he'd meet at the hospitals.

My sister Bridget and I also survive John, but we lost Bridget's twin, Katie, to a brain aneurysm in 2007. Debbie is still part of our family, and I know John got a big chuckle out of the fact that Bridget introduced Debbie to the man who would become her husband.  Last year I fell in love with one of John's best friends (from the class of '70), who we'd known since we were little kids, and we're about to start a life together.  Bridget is now a grandmother twice over, but I'm still 18 at heart and way too young for that! We are all well and happily living in California, and carry fond memories of all of our friends back home with us always.

Mark and I loved John very much and still miss him and think of him today.   He had a gentle soul and a great sense of humor!  One of my favorite memories of John.....Mark, John, Debbie and I were eating out at a Chinese restaurant.  John trying to prove to Mark that he could handle the hot sauce ~ picks up the spoon in the hot sauce bowl and puts it in his mouth!  Needless to say ~ John turned as red as a fire engine and was grabbing for anything to put out the fire in his mouth.  Mark, Debbie and I could hardly catch our breath from laughing!!
