Taaffe, Jean Ann (Matthies) 67, of Plymouth, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, July 7, 2014. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Taaffe and father, Howard Matthies. She was born in Albert Lea, MN, on December 4, 1946. Jean graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1964 and attended college at the University of Minnesota. Jean was a wonderful mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend. Jean is loved and missed by daughter, Jaclyn (Derick Hitchcock) Taaffe; mother, Eleanor, and step-father, Ed Soner; two sisters, Janet Rask and Joyce (George) Hogetvedt; two nieces, Sharee and Jennifer; and many other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 East Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (July 12), the memorial service will follow at 11:00. Jean(ne) and Curt Swanson went to prom together at my urging. Lois and I were there on a double date. Lois and I broke up shortly after graduation, Jean and I dated and were engaged while I was in the Navy. She wrote often and we remained engaged until shortly before I got out. We reconnected briefly after I was out but broke up again.
I was very imature at the time, Jean was far beyond my conception of what it was to be committed to a relationship. A truly nice person in every sense of the word.
I just saw a photo of her giving me a kiss while I had the Hong Kong flu at the time.
My heart goes out to her family and friends, both now and then. I am so sorry to hear of her death and will never forget the times we spent together.
