Dr. Robert E. McGeachie, age 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 6, 2017, after a long battle with head and neck cancer. Bob was born in Rockford, IL. Preceded in death by parents, Robert Peter McGeachie and Mary Sovereign. Survived by his wife of 45 years, Cathy; sons Michael (Elena Graceffa), Patrick, and Dan; grandchildren Ian and Isla; siblings, Marcia Streetman, Jean Read, and Frances Maclean.

Bob was a graduate of University of Wisconsin, Madison and University of Illinois Medical School, Chicago. He did his residency in radiology and fellowship in neuroradiology at the University of MN. He was Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of MN, Minneapolis from 1978 to 1990; on staff in Dept. of Radiology, St. Mary’s Duluth Clinic Health System from 1990 to 2005.

Bob chose the medical field as he had a genuine interest in helping others. He exemplified this by dedication, professionalism and integrity in his work. He went above and beyond in his dedication to patients and to his family. He enjoyed music, the outdoors and socializing with others in intellectual pursuits.

There will be an open house reception to celebrate Bob’s life at the McNamara Alumni Center of the University of Minnesota, 200 Oak St. SE, Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Reserved parking spaces will be available in the neighboring University Avenue parking ramp. Sharing of memories will be held approximately at 2:30.

The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Abbott Northwestern Hospital ICU-Station 20 for the exceptional care they provided during Bob’s last days. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the Cancer Research Institute.
