In Memory

Cindy Zeigler (Hutson)

July 31, 1954 ~ August 24, 2020

Cindy was born on July 31, 1954 to Dorothy James Zeigler and Edward George Zeigler at Mercy Hospital in Roseburg, Oregon. She is survived by her husband, Dave with whom she was married for 45 years (minus just 12 days), her oldest son Brandon and grandsons Ezra and Zayne, who are currently living in Hawaii and Matthew who with his wife Avia and daughter Hailey in Indonesia. She also has a brother, Barry, and his wife, Debbie in Roseburg. Cindy passed away at home on August 24, 2020, due to complications of kidney failure. She was preceded in death by both her parents, her father in 1984, and her mother in 2017.

Cindy graduated from Roseburg High School in 1973 and followed up with two years at Chemeketa Community College where she focused on Accounting. She met Dave in the summer of 1973 when he happened to drive by the drive-up window at the local Burger-Hut where she was working. Her eyes and smile captured him at that moment and the rest, as they say, is history.

Cindy and Dave were married on September 6, 1975, at Westside Christian Church in Roseburg. That was followed by an Oregon Coast honeymoon and moved into our first home, an apartment, in Beaverton. Dave’s work was the catalyst for several moves before her final home in SE Portland. In the meantime, she moved from Beaverton, NE Portland, Central Point, and back to Portland.

Her favorite things were spending time with friends, going to plays, bowling (years ago), playing Bunco, going to the Oregon Coast and the mountains and lakes of the Cascades, viewing waterfalls, and cheering on her favorite basketball and football teams. She was no casual fan, either, often being right on top of who’s who, trades, drafts, etc. Nobody cheered more enthusiastically for our kids when they were in school sports than their Mom! She was present in all her kids’ activities, whether it was sports, music, or academics, she was there and always proud of their accomplishments no matter what the outcome was.  And she continued to cheer them on and encourage them in their life choices into their adult lives.

She was especially comforted by the friendship of the people in our church home Life Group, of which she had been associated for many years. They became family for her in the absence of her kids and other extended family. You know who you are, and our gratitude to you is deeper than you can even imagine.

While she didn’t get a lot of time with her grandchildren due to the long-distance separation, she made the most of the time when she had the opportunity to be with them. We know that Ezra, Zayne, and Hailey really loved their Grandma and she really liked being Grandma!

She also loved the little things like hearts (since childhood) and butterflies and sunflowers. She was always bummed that our property didn’t have a good growing space for sunflowers. Then, you could always note that our DVR was always nearly full of recorded Hallmark romance and Christmas movies!  Indeed, Cindy was a woman of great depth.

Cindy was extremely kind and loving, a champion listener and the best wife and mother and friend anyone could ask for or expect, and beyond. Her friends universally counted her loyalty, kindness, and gentle attitude as her hallmark qualities. She has been referred to as a "bundle of love". Cindy always wanted to know what she could do to help others, even when her own health was failing. Even though her health was an obstacle in the last 10 years or so of her life, it never got her down, at least not for long. Friends and family saw this gentle, sweet, quiet woman show great strength and determination that not many could match.

She will be sorely missed by all those who knew her. But, here’s the “but” … she died being a believer in the saving grace of our Lord, Jesus; confident in His promise of everlasting life to any who claim him as their Savior. She wasn’t overtly religious but practiced being a Jesus follower in the way she loved people and treated them, just as she believed Jesus would. God has promised a place in Heaven for her and all of us who believe, and it is there where we will be together again.
