Virginia was a good friend and wicked tether ball player since grade school.  I have so many good memories of her helping me in Spanish class, hanging out at her house, and her great sense of humor and flaming red hair.  I count myself blessed to have had a friend like her!

Virginia's obiturary from http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/deseretnews/obituary.aspx?n=virginia-cooper&pid=177197687&fhid=4550 :

Virginia Cooper
"Jini, Coop"
Our beloved sister, aunt and friend, Virginia Cooper, age 63, passed away unexpectedly January 4, 2016, at the Jordan Valley Medical Center. Jini was born July 31, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to the late Robert Pomeroy and Garnet (Green) Cooper. She grew up in Holladay, Utah. During her junior and senior high years she spent two summers in Mexico on a student exchange. She graduated from Olympus High School and then went on to get a bachelor of science degree from Brigham Young University in Spanish and English with a teaching certificate. She later received a master's in education from Westminster College.
She started teaching Spanish at Kennedy Junior High in 1974 and became a master teacher, teaching there for 37 years before retiring in 2013. She lived in Taylorsville/Bennion, West Jordan, and later South Jordan.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, filling many positions, including stake sports director, Relief Society teacher, Relief Society counselor, and Gospel Doctrine teacher, to name a few. Teaching gospel doctrine was definitely her favorite. Learning the scriptures was a passion and love of hers.
Her best friend, Patty Anderson, was a member of the Tabernacle Choir, and Jini was able to tour as her companion when the choir visited such incredible countries as Russia, Israel, Europe and Spain. Her favorite country was Spain because she could speak to the people in their native language. She also enjoyed trips to Alaska and Canada that Patty had carefully planned.
Jini was instrumental in getting the family together for reunions. Her home was always open for many nieces and nephews and her sister Cathi's family to stay when they visited. She loved having them there, and their children became like a second family to her. She kept closely in touch with all of them. She could be the life of the party when she'd play her guitar and sing. And she could be a fearless competitor in basketball, volleyball, and softball.
She is survived by her three sisters, Rayna (Dave) Scott, Carole (Dave) Morris, Cathi (Curtis) Conkey; a brother, Rex (Linda) Cooper; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Jini was preceded in death by her brother Robert Rey Cooper and his wife, Jean Cooper.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 11, 2016, at 11:00 am at the River 2nd Ward, 1540 West 10400 South, South Jordan, Utah. Friends and family may visit at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10400 South) from 5:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, January 10, 2016 and from 10:00-10:45 am at the church prior to the service on January 11. Interment will be at the Holladay Memorial Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
