Greg Strong Leatherbury

1951 ~ 2012

Greg Strong Leatherbury was born on January 22, 1951. On July 5, 2012 he died of complications from diabetes. He lived life on his own terms and was stubborn to the end. He and his antics will be missed by his family and friends.

Greg was known to his friends as "The Great Organizer", because he loved getting together with family and friends. He was an expert at organizing events and making arrangements. He organized many events, including the annual Father's Day Open Golf Tournament for him and his golf buddies.

U of U football was a great passion of his. He went to many games and could never be accused of being a fair-weather fan. He would sit in the stands during the worst storm and, after everyone else had left, and cheer for the team, winning or losing.

Our father loved camping, especially at Defa's in the Uintah Mountains. He would sit by the camp fire for hours telling stories and causing trouble, and could create bon-fires that arsonists would be proud of. He also loved fishing and hunting, and stated many times that he knew the Uintah Mountains like the back of his hand.

He will be met in the afterlife by his parents, Jack and Gail Leatherbury, Sisters Jacquiline, and Johanna, and Brother Paul. He is survived by his wife, Pam, children Michael (Becky) Leatherbury, Michelle (Bryan) Watts, his beloved grandson Jackson Watts and four brothers and 2 sisters.

A memorial will be held for Greg at his home at 5:00pm on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. Please wear your University of Utah apparel, or red clothing.

We would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Tim Grange and the hospice nurse Melissa and her team. They were angels on earth that helped guide him to his final destination, and comforted his family in their time of need.
