Ed Pratt

Message from Ed's wife, Julie, on facebook.

Ed had been in heart failure for 14 years, since his 2009 heart attack and quintuple bypass. By January of 2022, his heart failure had progressed to the point that his life expectancy was 6 months to one year. Ed needed a heart transplant but was not a candidate because he was considered too old. Instead a LVAD was implanted into his heart, Left Ventricle Assist Device. This is a pump that is implanted into the heart that circulates the blood throughout the body, with external batteries powering the pump. Ed was literally running on batteries. So, when the batteries were disconnected, Ed died. So, he passed away from heart failure. We were very fortunate that Ed had this option.❤️”

Here is Ed's obituary:

Edward Glen Pratt

1951-2023

Edward Glen Pratt,72, away on Oct. 23, 2023 from

heart failure, a condition he had been living with for

fourteen years.

Ed was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on Oct. 6, 1951, to

Glen Arthur and Lois EvansPratt. He was the third of five children,

and the first born son.

Some of his childhood was spent in Portland, Oregon and San

Jose, California before the family returned to Utah when Ed was

in junior high school. He graduated from Olympus High School

in 1970.

The son of two accomplished musicians, Ed loved and

understood music. He began playing guitar as a young man

and performed for many years as a guitarist/vocalist for live

performances and on studio recordings. His musical training and

his keen ear also made him an excellent sound engineer, first in

the recording studio, and later in a sound reinforcement company

that he founded and successfully operated for nearly 50 years.

He was well known around concert venues in the Intermountain

west and was widely admired by the promoters, managers and

artists who worked with him

Ed originally met his wife, Julie Roberts when she became

one of his guitar students in September of 1974. They became

reacquainted in July 1993 and were married on October 8, 1994.

Julie was Ed's wife, best friend, and caregiver. They created a

wonderful life for 29 years before Ed's passing. Ed loved her

dearly and always introduced her as "my lovely wife, Julie.

When he was in his 40s, Ed became reacquainted with his

adult sons, who had been adopted as young children by their

stepfather. Ed always knew they would find him.

By January of 2022, Ed's heart failure had progressed to the

point where he needed a heart transplant but was not a suitable

candidate due to his age. Instead, he underwent a 13-hour open

heart surgery to implant a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) to

help circulate blood through his body. Ed was literally running

on batteries.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Julianne

(William) Shanks and Ruth Ann (Day) Clark. He is survived by his

spouse Julie Pratt, sister Charmaine (David) Folland, brother,

James E. (Debbie) Pratt, brother-in-law Steven (Rosalie) Roberts,

sons Ryan (Emily) Miller and James Silver (Sabina Ulleryd), five

grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family expresses its gratitude to physicians, A. (Boudi)

G. Kfoury, MD; Ramy Alharethi, MD; Ross Butschek, MD

Donya Mouebali, MD; the nurse practitioners and medical staff

of Intermountain Medical Center Heart Failure Clinic for the

excellent care given to Ed over the past 14 years; the nurses

at the LVAD team who cared for Ed during the last 21 months

of his life; William T. Caine, MD, who performed Ed's quintuple

bypass and the implantation of his LVAD; and all the health care

professionals at IHC who cared for him during the last month of

his life.

According to Ed's wishes, his remains were cremated and

there will be no funeral service. A celebration of Ed's life will be

scheduled for friends and family sometime in the Spring.

That is greivous news.  I remember ol' Ed from the Folk Music Club at Olympus HS.  We used to trade licks on the banjo.  I can't say that we were real close, but we always had a mutual respect for each other as musicians.  Very sad for Ed's family.  R.I.P. Ed.

I was very sad to hear about Ed's passing.  I worked with him in high school and he was a kind, thoughtful and intellegent man.

Hello Titans, this is a video of Ryan Miller son of Ed Pratt and Emma Jennette Dugal. He performed this recently honoring Ed. I think Ryan will remind you a little bit more of Ed. We are very sad about his passing.
