In Memory of

Kathy King

Kathy King

June 10, 1949 - July 13, 2016
Kathy Diane King went to be with her Lord July 13, 2016. Born in San Antonio, Kathy was the middle daughter of Walter B. "Shorty" and Willie Mae Barrow "Bill" King. After graduating from Highlands High School in 1967 where she played French horn, she attended McMurry College on scholarships including one for Band. Kathy claimed the Band trips taught her as much as many classes. She double majored in Social Welfare and Social Science: Government and history. After student teaching and serving as a director of youth ministry, Kathy decided to use her knowledge as an air traffic controller in San Antonio, Midland, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Family was a keystone for Kathy, which is why she founded and operated a small business, Fit For a King. She accomplished her goal of successfully providing San Antonio and visiting families with conscientious, caring sitters for 33 years. Preceded in death by her parents, Shorty and Bill King, and her sister, Connie Ruth King Crisp, Kathy is survived by her sisters: by birth, Doni Rae King and by heart, Barbara LaDue, her nieces: Reeha, Mary Alice, and Cassian and nephews: Matthew and Kenan, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins, her cancer sisters at SLEW Wellness Center, and a multitude of friends.

As a woman of faith, Kathy served her Lord as a prayer warrior. She worked with Women's Prayer International for several years. Kathy continued with her Southeast San Antonio prayer group. She attended Church at Prayer and Praise Alliance, and supported and encouraged others to support the mission work of David Earl and Mindi Adams with Campus Crusade for Christ; Josh and Bevin Bold at BoldMinistries; Paul and Karen Haenze in Poland; and the campus ministry of Cassian Schulz.

Kathy enjoyed traveling especially to Alaska and Maine. She and Doni were planning a train trip across the country before she became ill.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff at Stone Oak Methodist Hospital, Dr. Ulmer and the START Center for the wonderful care Kathy received. Thanks to all those who donated and continued to donate blood- a true gift of life.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any memorial contributions be made to one of Kathy's favorite ministries, SLEW Wellness Center, or the blood bank. You are invited to sign in on Kathy's Face book page.
