I was the physics teacher and soccer coach at NSHS during the 1969-70 school year. I also taught at Ridgeview HS from 1970-72. After that, I spent most of the remaining 38 years in the school textbook business in editing, marketing, sales, and training. I started working at GA Piedmont Tech (Dekalb Tech) and GA Perimeter in June of 2011 as a math-physics tutor.
NSHS had a championship soccer team in 1968-9 and 1969-70. I scheduled a match with Darlington Schol in Rome so they could see how the old Mid-South League played (rough and tumble, no holds barred). NSHS lost 2-0, so I later scheduled a match with Augusta Prep which NSHS won something like 12-0. I thought we needed to experience "the thrill of victory" as well as the "agony of defeat" (the old "Wide World of Sports" tagline). The 1969-70 team went on to the state championship against Lakeside.
Hi, Jan. I was soccer coach and physics teacher at NSHS in 69-70. Just heard a piece on the radio here in ATL about the origins of the Cheshire Bridge Road name and wondered if your family was related to these old ATL Cheshires.
