Melvin Lynn Fairbourn - "Mel"
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, returned to his Heavenly Father on March 24, 2000 of complications following surgery.
Mel was born Oct. 27, 1948 in Murray, Utah to Marion D. and Laura Butterfield Fairbourn. He grew up in the Crescent and Draper, Utah area. Married Kathleen Anderson on Dec. 2, 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from Jordan High and attend-ed BYU. Mel served an honorable LDS mission in the Northwestern States Mission. He was a former employee of Cummins Intermountain Diesel and at the time of his death was an employee of UDOT.
Mel was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a high priest in the Little Cottonwood 8th Ward. He served in various positions in the Primary, scouting, Young Men, Sunday School, Seventy's leadership, as an executive secretary, and in the Elder's Quorum Presidency.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Michelle Fairbourn, Logan, Stacie (Mark) Powell, West Jordan, Stephanie Fairbourn, Murray; son, Jeremy Lynn Fairbourn, serving an LDS mission in the Massachusetts Boston Mission; grandsons, McKennon Dean Powell, Tanner McKay Powell, his two little joys; mother, Laura Fairbourn, Sandy; mother-in-law, Radia M. Cottle, Murray; brothers and sister; Sterling (Marla) Fairbourn, Lyman, WY, Scott (Susan) Fairbourn, Clinton, UT, ReNae (Mike) Emery, West Valley; brothers and sister-in-laws; Dennis (Linda) Anderson, Las Vegas, NV, Michael Anderson, Midvale, Debbie (Tom) McClain, West Valley, Steve Cottle, Sterling, UT, and Sherrie (Dennis) Rawlings, Ivins, UT; and also many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces. Preceded in death by his father, Marion; and sister-in-law, Pat Jessop.
Services will be held Wed., March 29, 2000, 12 noon at the Little Cottonwood 8th Ward, 6180 S. Glen Oaks Dr. (855 E.). Friends may call Tues. 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State St. and Wed. one hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.
