In Memory

Katherine Ann Spray (Sudbury)

Born February 9th, 1948 Salt Lake City, Utah

Died July 8th, 2020 Draper, Utah

Kathryn Ann Spray, a lifelong mother, was reunited with her parents, both heavenly and earthly, on July 8th, 2020. Her last few weeks, though difficult and confusing for her, showed her dedication to her life’s calling as she asked constantly, “Where are my kids?” She has been freed from her struggles and enabled to watch over her children, unimpeded, like she always wanted to do.

Kathy’s lifelong passion for family was evidenced in her love for weddings and children. She was married at the young age of 19 to her high school sweetheart, Glen Sudbury, less than three months after his return from a two-year mission. Glen proposed twice, once before he left and once after he returned. Kathy accepted both proposals, waiting for two years for the return of her sweetheart.

Kathy worked as a dentist’s assistant until her first child was born. This was the beginning of her full-time job as a homemaker, where she excelled in her passion. She was known for her homemade whole wheat bread and waffles and impressive seamstress skills. Kathy was creative, and put her creativity to work creating gifts and experiences for those around her.

Kathy decorated her house with her creations and other objects of her passion. She had a wall dedicated to pictures of her four daughters in their wedding dresses and her sweet son Matthew. She loved antiques, always saying she could feel the stories they told.

Kathy was a dedicated mother and grandmother, always actively involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Kathy’s maternal instincts extended to her children’s friends, always ready to have fun with and create fun for them. Kathy was able to connect with children and teenagers by getting on their level. She was the type of grandmother who was on the floor playing and laughing with her grandchildren.

Kathy was a extraordinary mother with unique children, who needed her to go above and beyond when it came to taking care of them. She was up to the challenge, and created a home for her children, advocating for them with all the strength she had, always.

Kathy is survived by her children, Jennifer Archibald (Cary), Juliet Whicker (Jeff), Heidi Taylor (Schott), Anna Marie Peterson (Jason) and Matthew Glen Sudbury, and sisters Jeannie Lancaster and Robyn (Don) Shelton.

Kathy was welcomed home by her parents, Beverly Irene Barham and Robert Osborne Spray, her husband, Glen Eugene Sudbury, her son in law, Cary Archibald, her sister, Michelle Spray and brother in law, David Lancaster.
