Key Sailing is offering free tickets to the Sarasota High School class of 1975 through the month of October. “We don’t want to miss the boat on this reunion,” says 1975 SHS graduate/Key Sailing Owner Janet Hamel, who has already taken a number of graduates free from the class of 2020, and from various schools, including Sarasota Military Academy.

U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain Rev. Tim Solomon, who walked with Jan in graduation 45 years ago, will be at the helm. Seems the couple took a wedding walk two years after sailing into the real world with their caps and gowns. Tim has now served over twenty years on the board of trustees of the university where their own parents met, but training for this “retirement job” began with sailing classes while in high school.

Janet’s father was Dr. J.D. Hamel, namesake of the Bayfront veterans park across from Marina Jack where the Key Breeze is docked, with the actual key to the city onboard. Hamel was official all faiths chaplain to city police, county sheriff, State of Florida Fire Dept. hospital and veteran’s groups from 1960 to his passing in 1997. Because Janet’s first memory is a category five hurricane named Donna, Key Sailing also supports Bahama hurricane relief through

Key Sailing continues to follow guidelines during these changing tides, and offers private charters only. Graduates will sail free, with discounts available for family and friends. “It doesn’t take 2020 vision to see that we need each other more than ever,” quips Jan. “And that is what bugs me most about this latest bug!  Unlike so many previous challenges we have faced as this community that taught me the meaning of the word community, we can’t fix this by playing in the sand together.” But maybe we CAN all SAIL HOME for a moment of quiet rewind on the local 41’ yacht, “Key Breeze.” For more information, just call Jan at 941-346-7245 (SAIL) and mention, “SHS Sailing Home Sarasota!”

The Reunion Committee is sad to announce the cancellation of our formal 45th Class Reunion on October 23 & 24, 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. After much consideration and discussion the committee agreed it was in everyone's best interest to cancel the events.

With that said, please keep the dates open.  When we see how the pandemic plays out through the summer, we will do our best to put some kind of reunion party together.  Providing we can do it without social distancing, wearing masks and limiting the number of attendees.

Stay safe everyone, keep your distance and wear a mask in public.

In order to ensure you receive important messages from our class web site, as well as messages sent directly to you from other Classmates, it's important you whitelist the email address (that's a .net, not a .com).

What is whitelisting? Whitelisting simply means you are telling your email program to accept all emails coming from our class web site and our Classmates. The technique for whitelisting varies by email program, but generally you will see the term "Whitelist", "Safe List", or "Safe Sender's List". This is where you want to be sure you have added the email address

Class Creator, the system that helps us operate our class web site, uses the address when sending out email messages. Be assured that all emails sent through our site are valid — you will not receive spam email. Whitelisting is the single most important thing you can do to ensure you don't miss anything happening on our site or miss receiving your emails from your fellow Classmates.

Stop and take a moment to whitelist right now, and ensure you stay connected!
