We have also secured a private tour of the "Old Building" at the Sarasota Art Museum (aka SAM). for Saturday morning. we will meet in the courtyard behind the "old building," at 9:45 am. David Stershic, a proud member of the Sarasota High School Class of '74 and husband to Karen Roberts Stershic, Class of '75, played an instrumental role as the lead superintendent from Willis Smith Construction during the transformation of the old Sarasota High School building into the beautiful Sarasota Art Museum we know today. He will share his insights and stories from the more than two-year renovation process, touching on everything from overcoming structural challenges to preserving architectural gems like the original main lobby and the north and south staircases. One particularly fascinating story involves the journey of the floor trusses, which were repurposed into the stunning heart pine wood floors that now grace the second and third floors of the museum. This event is free. However, please consider eating at the Bistro after the tour, becoming a museum member, making a donation to the museum or perhaps all three. Seating in the auditorium is limited to 100 guests. However, standing room is available if needed. It is strongly suggested to register early for this event.
Payments can be made either by ZELLE or check.

Additional Events for Reunion Weekend
Thursday, May 15 – Karaoke at the legendary Bahi Hut, 4675 N Tamiami Trail from
7:00 – 10:00 pm. Many of us have stories from our times at Florida’s oldest tiki bar, and
a cherished Sarasota landmark since our hometown's earliest days. Use the legendary
Mai Tai as your “liquid courage” in preparation for your karaoke performance. If you still
have the old Bahi Hut jingle stuck in your head from those radio days, don’t
worry—you’re not alone. Come see why Bahi Hut has been capturing hearts and taste
buds for years.
Saturday, May 17 – Tour Circus Arts Conservatory, from 9:00 – 9:30 am
(immediately prior to the tour of the “old Building) 2075 Bahia Vista Street (site of the
Sailor Circus we all remember). Many of our classmates participated in Sailor Circus,
which was founded in 1949 by Bill Rutland as part of the Sarasota High School
gymnastics program. You will tour this state of the art permanent facility. Current
performers miss out on dragging the canvas tent, setting it up, and performing in the
non-airconditioned sauna.
Saturday, May 17 – Cookout at Sun & Surf on Lido Beach, from 11:30-3:00, 1148
Benjamin Franklin Drive. Ted Bertolett is our host and he will grill burgers, sausage,
and chicken, and provide chips, beer and water. You can stay around the cabanas, or
venture out to the beach. There is ample parking onsite. Due to the hurricanes there
are limited bathrooms (a couple of port-o-lets) so prepare accordingly.
Sunday, May 18 – Sunday Funday, from 11:00 am-3:00 pm, 7000 Prospect Road (near
University and Lockwood Ridge). Can’t get enough of our classmates, or just not quite
ready to say good-bye? Harris Williams is hosting us at his 2 acre farm, barn, and
house with a pool. This is a “bring your own” (food & drink) event. Amenities at his
farmhouse near University & Lockwood Ridge include: swimming, pickleball, cornhole,
croquet, and tents/shade.

The Class of 1975 Gifting Campaign
**Support Our 50-Year High School Reunion Campaign!**
Dear 1975 Sarasota High School Grads,
As the milestone of our 50-year reunion draws near on May 16 and 17, 2025, we are filled with excitement and anticipation. This is more than just a reunion; it's a chance to reconnect, reminisce, and create new memories with lifelong friends and classmates. Your generous contribution can play a crucial role in making this momentous occasion truly unforgettable. With less than four months to go, we are only $4,750 away from reaching our fundraising goal of $20,000. This progress hasn't been possible without the incredible support of those who've already donated. Every contribution, regardless of the size, brings us closer to our target and enhances the experience for everyone in attendance. Your support is the key to our success. Although your gift may not be tax-deductible, we are eager to acknowledge your generosity in several meaningful ways. We would be thrilled to feature you and your business in our program and throughout the reunion weekend. Additionally, we'll happily promote your business on our Facebook page as a token of our appreciation. This not only recognizes your contribution but also offers a chance for your business to gain visibility and connect with our community.
Our committee is passionately working to ensure that no classmate is left out due to financial constraints. Your donation will help us create an inclusive and welcoming environment, where everyone can enjoy the festivities and celebrate this incredible milestone together. Your kindness paves the way for cherished memories that will resonate for years to come.
To donate online, please click on the Reunion Gifts/Donation box at the bottom right of the home screen. You can also make a donation when you register for the reunion.
Please make checks payable to: Lesley Coble/SHS Reunion Account and mail to 5511 Antoinette St., Sarasota, FL 34232. Should you wish for your donation to remain anonymous, simply include a note with your preferences.
Alternatively, contributions via VENMO are welcomed. Please send to @shs1975reunion.
If you prefer ZELLE, please send to: sarasotahigh1975@gmail.com
Thank you for considering being a part of our 50-year high school reunion campaign. Your generosity will unite our class and foster a beautiful celebration of our shared journey. We're eager to hear any suggestions you may have to make this reunion truly memorable. Anchors Aweigh!
