Comments:
Went to UofA for one year. Partied too much and transferred to USC to "get serious". Failed to change but survived long enough to get a BA in Econ. Joined the Navy in 1985. I've been stationed in San Diego for all my sea tours, but I've also been stationed in Monterey CA, Newport RI, Bahrain, and Washington DC area when on shore duty. I've visited around 22 countries and enjoyed the travel tremendously. The Navy agreed to send me for a Masters in Space Systems back in the early 90s and I got another Masters in 2003. I was just accepted into a PhD program here at George Washington University (I'm here at the ROTC unit as the XO now). My plan for the future - work on that PhD, retire from the Navy, and teach at one of the universities (perhaps federal) here in the DC area for some number of years. Then, really retire and move back to San Diego, buy a new beach house (sold the other one in 2006), and enjoy playing in the surf every day.
Sorry I can't be there. We're commissioning our new Ensigns/2nd Lts on the 15th at the Iwo Jima Memorial. I'll raise a toast to all of you that evening.
