Janet Hallgren Silversmith

After high school I went to the U of M and graduated with a degree in International Relations (included a semester abroad in Vienna, Austria). That degree proved to be perfect preparation for no real-world job, so I did what any self-respecting liberal arts major does - I went to grad school! I then earned a Master's from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. I got married in 1990 and have been living in St. Paul (Highland Park neighborhood) since 1993! After struggling to raise a Beagle puppy, we decided the next best test for us would be kids, so we launched into child-raising and now have two great kids - Joey & Ellie (and the Beagle is still hanging on). Life is good and I look forward to seeing other classmates again soon!

Life seemed simpler then, or is that what all 40-somethings say when they look back?

Some specific memories: Band (and the trombonists emptying their spit valves behind us); volleyball; softball; girls basketball cheerleading (really, what was I thinking?); Dale Vaughan's history and WWII classes; speech (and the Non-O trophy battles with Joe Miller); orchestra pit; locking myself in Cathy P's room while trying to avoid a scary-cat and working on a term paper for Laura Dennis' class; traveling with Cheryl to baseball games (with Neil Diamond playing on the 8-track player - gee, at the time it seemed really cool!); and lots of great friends!
