I moved to Sitka in the summer of '67 kicking and screaming because I didn't want to leave my friends from the big city and move to a small town like Sitka. Little did I know that it would be the best thing that ever happened to me. Met my future wife and made some life long friends that have stayed with me to this day. My folks lived in a logging camp so I boarded in town with the Dunlaps for two years and the McCabes for my senior year. Theresa and I settled in Portland in '72 and raised our family here. I stayed in the logging industry and ran a log export yard for many years. In the late 90's when the lumber market took a big downturn, corporate decided to not renew our lease and I was out of a job. Landed with GP (everybody needs TP and paper towels) and now just biding my time and hoping the economy holds together till we can retire.
I played fastpitch softball in the summers and basketball in the winters for too many years and now the eyes and knees are playing tricks on me. Now it's golf where the ball doesn't move and I don't hurt when I'm done. Strangely addicting yet satisfying game but at the same time can be extremely frustrating. The only thing that hurts now when I'm done is my head, from the mental anguish.
Theresa and I now live in Troutdale east of Portland. If you've ever flown into Portland, the flight path goes right over our house. It's high enough not to bother us so we like to sit out on our back deck in the evenings and watch the planes come in or the birds, hummingbirds and butterflies. Not quite as exciting as bear, deer and moose but it works for us.
Special "shout out" to Becky, Karen, Alan, Tim and Lee............What's uuuup?
