Barbara Thigpen (Trimble)

Bobbye Thigpen Trimble 26926477

Nov. 16, 1954 - Jan. 7, 2023

Barbara “Bobbye” Thigpen Trimble, age 68, passed away peacefully at home in Yorktown, Virginia on Saturday, January 7, 2023, after bravely fighting pancreatic cancer since 2014.

She was the daughter of Eldridge Thigpen and Lynanne Taylor (nèe Thigpen). Bobbye is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Lt Col Edward Trimble, US Air Force (retired); son, Lt Col Michael Trimble, US Air Force, and wife Lindsay of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughter, Dr. Sarah Margaret Trimble, and husband Dr. Andy Evans of New Orleans, Louisiana; brother, Doyle Thigpen of Snow Hill, North Carolina; mother, Lynanne Taylor and husband John of Snow Hill; three grandchildren, and many loved nieces and nephews. She truly loved her many close friends, most of whom she met while the Trimbles were in various postings in the United States and England.

She is preceded in death by her adored father, Eldridge, and her dear sister-in-law, Lori Thigpen.

Bobbye was raised in Red Springs, Maury, and Snow Hill, NC. In her youth she was an outstanding and involved student, and an athlete. She completed her undergraduate degree in physical therapy at East Carolina University, with internships in Memphis and at Duke. She met her husband-to-be, Ed, on a blind date arranged by mutual friends while Ed was stationed in Goldsboro, NC. She was a wonderful Air Force wife and mother, caring for her family and enjoying life with them through many travels, schools, sports, and activities—never missing a game or event for her kids. She also worked as a physical therapist in North Carolina and Virginia over the years, helping many patients overcome physical ailments or injuries; her most significant patient was her father, whom she helped to walk again after he suffered a stroke.

Barbara was a lifelong, faithful Christian, attending several churches as the Trimbles moved from place to place. When her condition worsened, she enjoyed watching the services of Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock, where Michael and Lindsay are members. She spent as much time as she could with family and friends (and sometimes in peaceful solitude) at the Thigpen beach cottage in North Carolina, visiting many times each year. Recently, she enjoyed rebuilding the cottage and renovating her Yorktown home. She always loved traveling and reading, and she thrived when entertaining, but her greatest joy in this world was in the love and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services to remember and celebrate her life will bel held 11:00 AM Monday, January 16th, at the First Baptist Church of Snow Hill with Pastor Brick Crowder officiating. Interment will be held privately following the service.

The family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The First Baptist Church, PO Box 484, Snow Hill NC 28580 or Peninsula Rescue Mission Women's Group Home, 3700 Huntington Ave, Newport News VA 23607.
