HEDGEROW ACTRESS DIES IN CAR CRASH.

Upper Providence -- A 20-year-old Media actress who was playing a leading role in the current Hedgerow Theater production was killed in a two-car collision Monday night on State Road at the intersection of E. Rose Tree Road.
The driver of the car in which MICHELE STONG of 410 Galey St., Media, was a passenger, was critically hurt in the crash at 10:05 p.m.
Police said MISS STONG, the daughter of Mrs. George H. Shimp, of 443 W. Woodland Ave., Springfield, was pronunced dead at Riddle Hospital.
DAVID RUTH, 21, of 572 Sheffield Ave., Springfield, who was with MISS STONG, was reported in guarded condition in the intensive care unit at Crozer Chester Medical Center, Upland.
Police listed the driver of the second car as PETER H. McGRATH, 18, of 633 Hawarden Road, Springfield, who was charged with manslaughter and various other charges in an arraignment before District Justice Dewey LaRosa. McGRATH who suffered minor injuries, was released in his own recognizance on $15,000 bail to await a hearing at 2 p.m. Friday before LaRosa.
According to police, McGRATH'S car exited from E. Rose Treet Road and collided with RUTH'S car on the passenger side.
MISS STONG who had been an acting student at Hedgerow classes for two to three years was being featured in "The Rimers of Eldritch" by Lanford Wilson, which was scheduled to complete its run this weekend.
Dolores Tanner, managing director at Hedgerow, reported that the final performances of the show will be cancelled.
