Richard "Rip" Ripchick (Class Of 1957)

Richard J. “Rip” Ripchick, 84, passed away on June 29, 2023. He was born in Springfield, VT on October 7, 1938; son of Joseph and Ruth (Streeter) Ripchick.

He attended Springfield schools and graduated from Springfield High School, class of 1957.

Rip served in the US Army during the Korean War. After the war, he returned to Springfield and went to work as a truck driver for the Fellows Corporation.

On October 7, 1972 he married Elnora Ward.

Rip was a lifelong resident of Springfield. For many years he served as the Town Constable. He enjoyed meeting and talking to people over the years through his work as Town Constable.

Rip was an avid reader, enjoyed being outdoors, riding his motorcycle, and most of all his travels around the country with his wife Elnora “Nonie”. He was also the king of telling jokes.

He is survived by his stepson Stanley “Buster” (Lydia) Havey Jr. of Englewood, Florida; stepdaughters Elizabeth A. Fagans of North Springfield, and Barbara “Bo” (Gordon) Brill of Unity, N.H.; by six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brothers Joel Ripchick and Ronald Ripchick of Groton, NY, and sister Cheryl Wright of Oneonta, NY.

He is predeceased by his wife Elnora.

Visiting hours will be held at the Davis Memorial Chapel on July 21, 2023 from 5-7pm. A graveside service will be held July 22, 2023 at 10:00am at the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Springfield Booster Club.
