Sylvia Boyd (Smith, Kingston)

November 4, 1912 - April 10, 1990.

SPRINGFIELD The funeral service for Sylvia (Boyd) Kingston, 77; who died Tuesday morning upon arrival at Springfield Hospital, will be held at 1 pm. Saturday in the Davis Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Charles G. Campbell, pastor of the First Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will take place at the family's convenience in the Oakland Cemetery. 

She was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Wilmington. 

She attended schools in Wilmington and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont with Phi Beta Kappa honors. She also attended the Grenoble University in France and Middlebury College. 

In 1975 Mrs. Kingston retired from her teaching career at Springfield High School after 23 years. She taught Latin and French and in 1962 was named Vermont Teacher or the Year. She helped organize the Springfield High School Debate Team and remained active for many years winning several State titles. 

Mrs. Kingston had been active in the Springfield Visiting Nurses Association and had served on the board of trustees. She was also a member of the Springfield Congregational Church. 

Survivors include her husband, Paul H. Kingston of Springfield: a daughter, Jennifer S. Wesson of Loxanatchee, Fla.; and a half-brother, Willis Boyd of Valparaiso, Ind. 

There will be no visiting hours.
