When did your family first come to Springfield?

Upon graduating from the University of Nebraska in 1939 my father accepted a position with General Electric in Pittsfield, MA. In 1954 after three stints in Pittsfield, two in Schenectady, NY, one in Bridgeport, CT and one in Louisville, KY he left GE for Jones and Lamson. He had been recruited by HL Andrews, president of J&L, with/for whom he worked as a welding engineer when both were with GE in Bridgeport. He commuted from Pittsfield to Springfield where he lived in a rented room at 33 Common Street during the week. He did this from late '54 until the end of the '54/'55 school year. The entire family moved to Springfield in late June 1955. We rented the bottom floor of 31 Orchard Street. Without telling me, in the fall of '58 they bought the house built by Bob Labonte at 22 Mark Street and moved into it before Christmas. Didn't work. I still found them when I came home from Purdue for that first vacation.

My new toy as of February 2019. It's a 2018 Honda CB650FA inline 4. I'm using it as my major mode of around town transportation. Old enough to know better yet still young enough to ride.

I saw your comment where you said you lived in Fullerton for a while. I've been in southern California since 1979 living in Placentia until 1984, then briefly in Fullerton and now in Orange. Depending on when you were there we may have been neighbors. There a few from the class of '58 living in The Villages. Seems you can't escape us.

This is an article about your classmate and my sister that was included in an issue of the magazine put out by the community in which she lives with her husband Leonard. Her health is not good and I'm quite sure she'll never join the site but I thought the write-up might be of interest.
