What a beautiful smile...she was already an angel on earth...now her smile is in the sunshine.  How happy her sons and husband must be to have had the joy of Cheryl's presence in their lives.   God Bless.

Cheryl called me a couple weeks ago to say good-by.  She had just learned that the chemo wasn't helping anymore and she had just gone in to hospice care.  Her courageous battle began last May with the discovery of very advanced cancer, and it was her fervent hope to live to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary this coming June.  Cheryl was so proud of Bill and grateful to him for all he has done while helping her through this struggle.  The thought of leaving Nathan, her five-year-old grandson who lived closest to her at this time, was very hard.

I remember when Cheryl came to Streator to live with her older sister and joined our sixth grade class.  Although her parents had died, she was always kind and smiling and never feeling sorry for herself.  She lived across the street from my uncle and his family (just a couple blocks from my home), so we spent a lot of time together.  Just last week I sent her pictures of our 8th grade cheerleading squad we both belonged to and our group of sophomore ushers dressed up for a high school play.  Last summer, as I toured 8 countries in a whirlwind tour, I prayed for Cheryl in every church I saw...then brought home pictures for her so she could do her own armchair traveling.

I will miss this gentle soul.  Cheryl is a dear friend.  Her death came so fast and all too soon!  We have a light in heaven.  She cares about her classmates, her family, her many friends. God bless you forever, Cheryl.

Cheryl and I had not stayed in touch since high school, but were good friends in school.  Like everyone else has already said, she always had a smile on her face and a cheery attitude.  She will surely be missed by those she touched in her life.

often I WISH I had spent more time getting to know all  my classmates. I didn't know Cheryl that well, and didn't know she was raised by her sister. I do know her husband as he shared a great sense of humor like all the Sangston's. My heart is with you.
