Candy Mason

I've been in New York City for a long time. The older I get, the more I love to spend time in nature, and appreciate the outdoors. I've been lucky in New York City, spending my first fifteen years working in public television, theatre, and film. I then worked for Audubon's Living Oceans Program, working to help uplift sustainable fishing, saving marine wildlife. For the last five plus years, I've been working in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, at a soup kitchen and food pantry.

Meeting Edna McBride aka Dr. Edna Pytlak smoking cigarettes in a stall in the "girls" bathroom in Troy High School. She had just transferred to Troy High.

She became a lifelong friend, the kind of friend that money can't buy (to borrow from Abbie Hoffman), translating doctor speak and visiting my late husband even for 10 minutes during his last days of life every chance she got between her patient visits.
