After high school, I attended Caldwell Community College for 1 1/2 years, taking various classes. I had an opportunity to move to California with my mom and step-dad and did for 2 years. (During that time my grandmother died of cancer). After I moved back, I went to Barber School and have been a Barber for 21 years. (for 2 of those years, the shop i worked for was nominated Best Barber Shop in Hickory).

I was adopted when i was 7 months old, but in 1990, i searched and found my biological family, living in Statesville. I was happy to meet them, but I was so proud to have been adopted and have a great family.

For a large part of my life, I couldn't stop wondering whom my biological family are, but after I spent time with them and enjoyed getting to know them, i finally filled that gap of my life. After that, i concentrated more on myself and trying to find someone special. I tried dating a couple of girls, but still felt like i was hanging out with a best friend, until i realized that i was gay, and came out to myself and my family.

I've been in a couple of decent relationships over time, but i started spending more time on the internet, and met someone spectacular 5 years ago, whom i really love, and we're still together now. (As i'm writing this i hope i don't jinx myself. LOL) I finally found my true love, and i'm very happy.

Even though i was very quiet and a loner (at times) in High School, I still enjoyed hanging out with my friends. I have lots of good memories of high school. I loved going to the Prom, even though i had a blind date.

I think my best and worst year was my Senior year. I finally came out of my shell and entered the Talent Show, playing the piano. I had so much confidence, and felt so proud of an accomplishment. But it seems that when you reach a "high", there has to be a "low". My "low" came on Valentines Day. I know lots of people don't remember this, but it took me years to be able to talk about it.

During the year, i developed a friendship with Stephen Fox, whom is actually my 3rd cousin. during my school years, i was picked on for my red hair, for some thinking i was gay, etc. On Valentines day, one of Stephen's friends, sent him a rose and forged my signature, making him think it was me that sent the rose. (i did think he was good looking, but embraced our friendship most). I was devastated for a long time, as well as trying to convince him and other people that i didn't send it. I wish it wouldn't have bothered me that much then, but it did. It shattered my confidence, but later got that back.

I wanted to talk about that to share with others, but also to say that it doesn't bother me anymore. That incident hurt deeply for years, but finally i put it behind me.

A cool thing that happened my senior year was that i got to attend the Prom. The only year i went to the prom at high school. My good friend, Michelle Douglas wanted to help. I wasn't dating anyone , but really liked Angela Hughes that year. I was shy, but i think she went with someone else. Anyway, Michelle fixed me up on a blind date, and I was able to go and i had a good time.
It was later in life that i could come out and be myself and have another chance at going to the prom as my true self. In 2000, i was able to go to a second chance prom in Charlotte with my bf at that time. Ace and TJ (from 95.1 radio) put on that second chance prom, and the theme was actually Purple Rain, and things was decorated in Purple. It was a great time too. (Actually my bf at that time was a part of the Misfits to the Superbowl that year, which was fun.

I've been working as a barber in Hickory for 21 years. One thing that surprised me (in a good way), was that Waters Barber Shop (where i worked for 20 years), was voted the best barber shop in Hickory 2 years in a row .
