In Memory

Mickey Farley

Private services will be held at a later date for Mickey Edward Farley, 65, of Bakersfield, who passed away on August 21st in Bakersfield from a sudden illness.

He attended UC Santa Barbara and graduated with a degree in psychology, where he served as a "grunt" for famous behavorial psychologist, Dr. B. F. Skinner. Mickey was known for his skill as a "bug wrangler" for Dr. Skinner at U.C.S.B., collecting specimens for study.

Mickey considered himself a nerd interested in comic books, computer gaming, martial arts, superheroes, and classic Star Trek. He was a gifted guitarist and composed many songs for guitar. Mickey also composed theatre scores and performed in over two dozen musical theatre and stage productions -- his favorite roles often featured singing with his soulful baritone voice. Some of his favorite roles were as Arvide in Guys and Dolls, Jacob in Joseph Technicolor Dream Coat, Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast, Dr. Scott in The Rocky Mountain Horror Show, and as King Herod in holiday productions of The Boars Head Festival. Mr. Farley was a database administrator, senior systems administrator and software designer. He worked at the Kern County Supt. of Schools office and was proud of being able to serve employees in education.

He was a member of the Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary Club where he created the famous haunted house theatrical tours. Mickey was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church  for over 30 years, where he was a devout Christian - secure in his faith.

He is survived by his wife Cherylanne of 35 years and his beloved pit bull Bella and other family members in Colorado and Arizona.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Childrens Bakersfield Music Theatre or St. John's Lutheran Church.

Special thanks to Drs. Baker, Mehta and Cardenas.

I knew Mickey quite well, in high school anyway.  He was so very quiet and shy but a really good person.  We always talked about our Birthday's being a day apart.  In fact, he was born at almost midnight on June 9th and he said, just another hour and we would have had the same birthday.  I told him, I was born at 12: 47 am on June 10th.  A few minutes earlier and I would have been born on June 9th, his birthday.  Small world.  RIP Mickey...we will all miss you.

This makes me so sad. Each time we planned a reunion, we always asked ourselves "Where's Mickey?"  I hope he did not think we forgot about him because we didn't.  Well we finally found you. I wish it had been sooner.

This is sad and to think he was nearby all the time. I have memories of Mickey from junior high I believe. Nothing specific only that he was shy and mild mannered. He certainly lived a full life. My thoughts a wishes go out to his wife, family and friends. May he rest in peace.

What I most remember about Mickey was his smile. He was quiet (like me), but had a nice smile.

Very sad that we didn't manage to connect with him for our last reunion. Hope we might do more outreach before the next to connect with some of the others.

RIP, Mickey.
