Thanks to everyone who helped us all make more great memories this weekend!

What a great time we had. For those of you who wanted to be here and couldn't, we love you and miss you and hope you will stay connected with us through this website. For those of you who knew about the reunion and chose to stay away, everyone agreed: It was your loss! We still welcome you to sign in anytime as we would love to be in touch. And thanks to those schoolmates from other classes who stopped by to say hi -- it was great to see you, too!

What a beautiful and nice bunch of people we have become. That was the consensus as we enjoyed a great dinner in Becky and Phil's backyard. And the hug-fest after breakfast at Kelcy's went on and on (some folks may still be there!) By now many are home but some will be traveling for several more days -- we hope everyone gets home safely.

What's next? PICTURES! Everyone will get an e-mail letting those who took pictures know what to do so we can get them all posted.

And everyone agreed we want to keep in touch so we will keep the website up for that purpose and look for ways to get more people involved in its maintenance.

And, don't forget, THS Class of 69 Rules

PS - Mary G surprised us -- her guest was our junior high science teacher Mr. O'Donnell and we had a great time visiting with him. Also with Mr. Kinder and later Coach Carll and his wife came by for a visit. Coach Carll would like to read everyone's postings so we're adding him as a member and you can have a chance to send him a note if you didn't get to see him Saturday.

30 year Reunion Fun

On Wednesday, May 29, 1968, members new and old of the Block 'T'  participated in "The 1968 Block T Initiation". It took the form of a Chinese fire drill. The initiation consisted of a tug-of-war between the new and old members, at least that's the initial intent.  It ended up in a big mud fight, all in fun, however.  The one big thing on everyone's mind was how to douse the coaches with mud. In the end, Coaches Carll, Humpert and Williams were almost as muddy as the members.

The baskets were returned to the family and the Kawaiisu tribe.

The Old Depot Rising From the Ashes

Dean Snyder, RIP
We've received sad news of the passing of Dean Snyder, THS Class of '68 and brother to our own John Snyder. Dean's classmate Wayne Bush tells us that Dean passed away on Saturday, June 6, at approximately 11:30 a.m. EST. He was at his home in South Carolina with his wife, Cindy, daughter Camerin and brother John at his side.

AFS Students
Enriched Our Lives

AFS--American Field Service--enriched our lives with exchange students from other countries living with families in Tehachapi and attending school with us. We've tracked down two--Sam (Osamu) Nagatomo from Japan, who lived with the Peterson family during our Freshman year and Anni Hansen from Denmark, who lived with the Stokoe family during our Senior Year. Perhaps we can track down the others, as well.

Anni and Sam, thank you for being part of our lives at Tehachapi High School!

Sam, then and now - CLICK HERE to read Sam's profile

Anni - CLICK HERE to read Anni's profile

Now, what are the odds of this?

Here's a recent photo of Ann (didn't you just know she would still look great!)

Our Beach Party

Lynda sent us this one from her collection, to add to those from our senior trip that ran in The Warrior on June 6, 1969.

Here's Lynda's

Kathy Hawkins, Yvonne Valdez, Lynda Stokoe and Becky Markey... and we think that's part of Margaret Heath's head (behind Kathy).

Margo, Donna and Vicki - women's dorm

Donna sent this photo, Claudia and Becky at our 15th reunion, summer of 1984 at Indian Hills Campground near Tehachapi.

From the Tehachapi News, August 1968

Bill recalls:
"You remember Rainbow Girls and the DeMolay Boys? If you read this article you'll see Claudia and Pam were my program girls, Linda Koehler and Janette Sanders were my usherettes and Brenda Kirkbride was Chapter Sweetheart. Just like in a James Bond movie, guys in tuxes or white dinner jackets and ladies in formals--- we all were just too cool ! lol

Notice Bill only mentioned the girls! The type is a little blurry, but Phil Drain and Bob Carter from our class were involved in Demolay and some younger guys you may remember.

From The Warrior, May 17,1968, a little piece of history; so sad to see our old pear orchard gone!

From the Profiles, Bill with a fish:

In case you're not checking out everyone's profiles, we'll be posting some of the photos on the front page from time to time. Ladies, if your husband or significant other dreams of catching fish like this (or those that John Scafide has posted), don't tell Bill; he will send him material in the mail to try to lure him to the Eastern Sierra!

Here's one Donna had from an earlier event, we think a party at Nick and Mary's house as part of which reunion? Someone help us out here!

Donna found this from our 15th Year Reunion:

Checked out the Tehachapi webcam (link elsewhere on our home page) today, 3/22/09, and noticed that there is snow on the ground, in fact, looked like it was still snowing. So thought this picture from The Warrior was appropriate; originally published on February 7, 1969.

Here's another hot news item from The Warrior, this one from the issue of January 10, 1969:

Way to go, Brad!

Donna, Bekki and Claudia had lunch together in Visalia, recently, and someone had to take the picture! Great time, lots of laughing and stayed so long we had to pay rent on the booth! Donna brought some more pix from prior reunions and we'll get those up soon!

Remember going to the Bowling Alley? Sad and hard to imagine that today's Tehachapi can't support one when it was the "happening place" when we were in school. Here are Patty, Ann and Lynda; Becky recalls that this was some special event where we could sit in the bar and order fancy "drinks" like 7-Up with cherries and pretend we were grown up. Can't quite figure out who that is in the background, smiling.

Becky found this photo of Linda Koehler from post-high school days while they were attending Bakersfield College. Sadly, Linda is one of the classmates we've lost.

Do You Remember This Woman?

Margo guessed first and guessed right...here's what she had to say:
Yikes!  That was the BAG!  Miss Bagwell.  Dennis and I used to give her such a hard time.  I remember stealing her chair.  We would push it outside.  We would coordinate and all drop our books at the same time.  She was always dropping her earrings down her blouse and would reach inside to "retrieve them".  Dennis and I got bad grades from her until we wrote a letter together to the principal and charged her with predjudiced against us and had nothing to do with us academically.  The principal was Mr. Soloman I think...
That photo came out of the '64 yearbook, the Bulldog!!!

BY THE WAY...Miss Bagwell was born in 1902. That means she was only 62 years old when we graduated from eighth grade in 1964. Notice I said "only." Take a look at that picture...reminds me of my grandma, not my fellow classmates. Not even close. Which is further proof that 60 must indeed be the new 40! - Claudia

PS - Several of us have some pretty weird memories of Miss Bagwell. But I do have to say, she did a great job of teaching me to diagram sentences and I never have trouble with prepositional phrases and for this I am eternally grateful to her.

Do you have memories of Sixth Grade Camp...either as a Sixth Grader or later, in high school, as a counselor? Here are Becky and Margaret working on crafts at camp. Here and there around the site you might find stories about some camp shenanigans! What was that in your pocket, Donna? And what was on the flagpole, Bill? And who went home from camp early and why (shh! don't tell the grandkids!) Oh, and remember those cute little triangular scarves, they were called "babushkas!"

From the pages of the Tehachapi News, 12/8/66: Jayvee Football Award Winners, Dave Lobeck, Mike Douglas, Rick Olmstead and Greg Mazzanti. Douglas was the MVP!

Remember these cuties? Elvira, Mary and Karen as freshmen in the GAA Slave Auction!

Posted 2/7/09: Mr. Kinder, pictured at left, has just registered with the site. Be sure to read his profile to see what he's been doing since he left Tehachapi. You might be surprised! Here he is with officers of the Key Club our senior year including Calvin, Ann, Bob, Steve and two underclassmen, Steve Bond and Rod Kirkbride (Brenda's little brother).

Posted 2/5/09: We were the seniors of the GAA -- Girls Athletic Association. It was three years before the passage of Title 9 and for most of us, the big athletic event of the year was the GAA Slumber Party in the gym. Since not everyone signed my book, here are their names: Sid (actually, Marianne), Ann, Yvonne, Karen, Margaret, Linda, Susan, Becky (now Bekki), Lisa, Claudia (that's me) Elvira and Becky (still Becky). I'll bet everyone of us thought we were "fat." Well, maybe not Yvonne! Personally, I'm glad for Title 9 and I think it's great that so many girls play sports, today. But the slumber party was fun, too!

Posted 2/2/09: Bill reminds us that we were the first class to go all the way through at "our" Tehachapi High School. He suggests we try to get a tour during our reunion. Of course, now there is a new THS and "our" school is "Jacobsen Middle School." I wonder if they still use the lockers?

"Our" School with a new name.

Posted 2/1/09: In honor of the Super Bowl, here are the Champion Warriors from the Fall of 1968. Remember the long bus ride to Needles? On the rooter's bus, how many times did we sing "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall?" It was a great season.

Posted 1/31/09: SAD NEWS - When we created this website, we were aware that some of our classmates had passed on. Unfortunately, as we begin to try to track people down, we may inevitably encounter more sad news. We have learned today of the death of Pam last fall. RIP

Posted 1/31/09: Here (below) is Bekki P. with Mr. Howitz in business class. Log in to check out what Bekki's been up to and you'll see she put what she learned to use! Notice that the writing on the blackboard is backwards. Was Mr. Howitz dyslexic? No, the yearbook staff must  have "flopped" the photo, which also makes it look like Bekki is left-handed.

EXTRA! EXTRA!
WE HAVE FOUND MR. KINDER!

Here he is in 1969...

And here he is last year before celebrating his 70th birthday in July...

We've been in touch with his daughter by e-mail and we're waiting for him to sign in!

Nancy and Tim have a new grandbaby. Brian Allen was born Jan. 14, 2009, in Reno to Nancy's daughter Heidi and her husband, Steve. He weighed 6lbs 4 oz.  and was 18 1/4 inches long. Congratulations to all!

 John S. - posted 1/28/09
Have you been wondering about John? He's had some great adventures. But you'll have to register to check out his profile and see the pictures (don't forget to ask about his gold mine!)

POSTSCRIPT: Do you remember when the pool was new and we were thrilled! We could go swimming in the dead of winter. Now, nearly 40 years later, it's called the "Dye Natatorium" (Walt Dye was Director of the Rec. Dept. when the pool was built), and the pool is empty because of budget problems. Read about in the Tehachapi News: http://www.tehachapinews.com/home/ViewPost/86929

 Ann & Yvonne...senior year,
posted 1/23/09

Carrie found this one and sent it for us to share: Karen, Bart and Carrie at Mountain Park. With all the snow we've been getting it probably looks about like that right now! We've been in touch with Karen and hope to see her at the reunion, although she hasn't signed on to the site yet.

Donna sent this photo of Dennis taken
at our 25th Class Reunion in 1995--the year before he passed away.

From Bill Arnold's collection:

Remember Junior High? Bill says this was taken June 10, 1965, the last day of school (eighth grade). It must have been some crazy dress-up day with the hats, Randy's tie, and the mis-matched socks. From left are Elvira Romandia, Becky Markey, Randy Redelsperger, Jorgina Jury and Connie Carter. Love those knee socks!

Margo sent this one (and some others, stay tuned!), from the Christmas Dance (was it called the "Cotillion?") Not sure of the year but looks like maybe December 1968.

OK, help us out here... it was summer of 1984 at Indian Hills Campground, horseshoes and beer, our 15th reunion and their names are... sorry, but the photos fuzzy and my eyes are old. Who are these guys? The consensus is that they are Mitch Kelland on the left and Randy Redelsperger on the right (or maybe Sammy Flanagan on the right).
