As a college student I worked in retail and marketing research, wrote for the university newspaper, and interned for a minor league hockey team. After graduating from Texas Tech, I was the marketing assistant for Southwest Sports Group (the then-parent company of the Dallas Stars, Texas Rangers and Mesquite Rodeo). I then went on to be an English teacher and cheerleading coach for 8 years before going back to public relations.

When I started graduate school in 2011, I went back to waiting tables and interning for the American Heart Association and then at a small public relations agency where I specialized in social media and digital communications. At the same time I worked as a teaching assistant at UNT for the department of strategic communications. In 2013 I started working for a digital media agency in Las Colinas where I manage web design projects and social media marketing for a variety of clients. I was hired by UNT as an adjunct professor of strategic social media, but had to turn it down at the last minute when my agency merged with another one. A few months later, I went to work for the North Texas Municipal Water District and have been in the public relations department ever since.

The past 20 years have been an adventure! Although I started college at TCU, I bounced around a bit before finally landing at and graduating from Texas Tech with my B.A. in Public Relations. I spent two years working in professional sports marketing before embarking on a surprising 9 year career as an English teacher and cheerleading coach, thanks in large part to Mr. Terry Eason and Mrs. Ramona Oats who gave me my start.

I married Indiana native Eric Freeland in 2009 and we immediately moved to Rockwall to be near my family. My son, Morgan Dean Freeland, was born in 2012. I left teaching and went to grad school at UNT to change careers. I graduated with my master's degree while 8 months pregnant with my second child, Chloe Caroline Freeland. I got divorced two years later and now live in Rowlett with my children. We are active at Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall.

I can barely remember anything about high school that didn't involve two of my best friends, Carrie Bryan and Danielle Woodard-Sanchez. Whether it was going to church retreats and having sleepovers with Danielle or cruising around town and going to tennis or Tigerette practice with Carrie, it seemed like I was always with one or the other throughout high school. There are so many other friends that I loved spending time with, like Lara Reed (Zajik) and Andrea Hall (Webster), but I spent the most time with these two. Life took us in different directions and Carrie's life was cut way too short, but I've always treasured the time we had together.
