Joanne Berezin (Zuroff) VIEW PROFILE

Joanne was born in Tiffin, OH on November 19, 1941.  She started grade school at Noble School.  When her family moved to Hedges Street, Jo attend Monroe St. School.

After graduation, she attended Ohio State University and then Wayne State University in Detroit. She married Dr. Arnold Zuroff, DDS and had 5 children (one daughter and 4 sons).  Up until she got sick, she continued to go back to school at University of Michigan to continue her education.

They lived in Southfield, MI where she, her husband and their family were very active in the Jewish Community. She and her husband were the founders of 2 area synagogues.  She was involved locally, nationally and internationally with a women's group involved im many causes related to Soviet Jewry.

Jo worked at a local radio station, reporting the weather and traffic. Jo wrote articles for a weekly newspaper called "Southfield Eccentric."  She was a very creative writer.

As a survivor of breast and ovarian cancer, Jo became a spokeswoman for helping people cope with and perservere beyond the disease.   She was in remission for 9 years and lived a vry full, wonderful life. 

She died August 17, 1998 at age 56.
