Richard Allen Wetherill was born in Tiffin, OH on November 14, 1941. 

After graduation, he served in the US Army and was home on leave.  On October 29, 1962, Dick, his fiance, Francis Wagner, 17, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Wagner went fishing on Lake Erie in a 16 ft. outboard motored boat.  The boat capsized and the only survivor was Francis, who clung to a life jacket until rescued by the Coast Guard.

Dick's body was found May 1963, less than 20 hours after Mr. Wagner's body was found - both near Kelley's Island.
