Michael was a Commander with the U.S. Public Health Service. He earned degrees in Musical Therapy from the University of Kansas and in Nursing from the Washburn University School of Nursing. He earned his Master of Science degree in Nursing from K.U. and was pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing.
His obit listed him as a member of St. John AME Church, and the Men's Chorus there. However, his funeral mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the parish wake held at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.
