John Elson Johnston

John Elson Johnston, 46, Topeka, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1992, at a Topeka hospital.  Cause of death was unavailable.

He worked for the State of Kansas 17 years and currently was administrator for Vocational-Rehabilitation at Social Rehabilitation Services.

He was born Dec. 2, 1945, in Topeka, the son of Harry E. Johnston, Sr. and Lois Schneider Johnston.  He was graduated from Topeka High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology and a Master of Science degree in guidance and counseling from Phillips University at Enid, Okla.

Mr. Johnston was a member and elder at First Christian Church and a member of the National Rehabilitation Association, an assistant Boy Scout leader and member of Order of the Arrow, honorary camping society.

He was married to Margaret Tegtman May 27, 1972, in Topeka.  She survives.  Other survivors include a daughter, Meredith Anne Johnston, at home; a son, Geoffrey Johnston, at home; and a brother, Bud Johnston, Topeka.

Cremation is planned.  Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church.  Inurnment arrangements are pending.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 1880 Gage, 66604; to an education fund for the Johnston children in care of Capitol Federal savings, 700 S. Kansas Ave. 66603; or to Phillips University, P.O. Box 2000, University Station, Enid, Okla., 73702.  Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
