Richard Wayne Dick Downing Richard Wayne Dick Downing, 70, Topeka, died Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at Midland Hospice House. He was born February 24, 1946, in Topeka, the son of Morris Richard and Avis Nadine (Atkinson) Downing. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1964. He worked as a carman in the Santa Fe Shops. After retiring he opened Downing Refrigeration. Richard was married to Cynthia Sue Cindy English on August 22, 1963, in Topeka. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2013. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tamila Kay Downing on May 4, 2015. Surviving are a daughter: Susan Michelle Torrez (Martin) of Topeka; a brother: Robert R. Downing of Topeka; five grandchildren: Brian Downing (Crystal) of Topeka, Bobbi Downing of Nebraska, Rebecca Cano (Lazaro) of Topeka, Lance Torrez of Topeka, and Richard Torrez (Elicia) of Topeka; and 13 great-grandchildren. Committal services will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Vassar Cemetery. Richard will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Monday, at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
